3D Printing is an exciting development in manufacturing technology, which allows individuals with access to 3-dimensional computer data, the ability to literally ‘print-out’ solid objects layer-by-layer. Layer based manufacturing has only recently matured to the point where it can be used to make ‘end-use’ components, such as vehicle parts, medical implants, hearing aids, telecommunication devices, surgical aids and even prosthetics.
But what role could there be for 3D Printing technology to overcome some of the challenges faced in countries with poor infrastructure and a lack of a traditional manufacturing base? Since 2012 we’ve been working to find transformational uses for 3D Printing that deliver real social benefit in the developing world.
