Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was one of the great 2012’s expectation, and one of my biggest disappointments. I know that the film divided the audience and many loved it, but let me try to explain why I didn’t.
Initially, I thought that featuring Abraham Lincoln in a vampire film was a really unusual yet cool idea. But I don’t think the film used it very well. You have this simple guy coming out of nowhere, who suddenly is asked to deal with the entire vampire population, and that deliver ninja moves and matrix styled fight? To me it was a big nonsense…and a simple juxtaposition of cool stuff taken from other films. The story itself was not impressive. When you read it on paper it looked greats, and could have been greatly developed. But instead that movie sounded like the average action film story…with its lot of incoherence. I went to the cinema expecting a dark film in the vein of “Near Dark” or “From Dusk Till Dawn”, with maybe a political or historical touch. Instead, I found myself watching an horror version of Will Smith’s “Wild Wild West”.
There are some pretty impressive fighting scenes though, and for example the fight with the horse is pretty awesome. For once, I wasn’t turned off too much by the CGI. But these scenes are too scarce, and polluted by irrelevant and non-interesting side-story. I was really bored after 1 hour and had a hard time finishing it.

The book was far superior to th film and made far more sense. I tried to watch it and got about 35 minutes in and had to shut it off.
