PREVIEW: Svindal can equal Maier’s Lake Louise Super G record

ALPINE SKIING – Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal can become the second skier to win four World Cup Super G races at Lake Louise (Canada) when the 2012/2013 Super G season begins on Sunday, 25 November.

> Aksel Lund Svindal (NOR) has won three World Cup Super G races at Lake Louise (2005, 2007, 2011), trailing only Austrian legend Hermann Maier’s tally of four.

> A fourth win at Lake Louise would leave Svindal one win short of Maier’s record of five World Cup Super G victories at any single venue, which he set at Kitzbühel.

> Svindal can win his seventh career World Cup Super G race, which would put him into outright fourth place all-time, behind Maier (24), Pirmin Zurbriggen (SUI, 10) and Marc Girardelli (LUX, 9).

> Svindal has never won multiple World Cup Super G races in a single season, but he has won exactly one Super G race in six of the last seven seasons, missing out only in 2010/11.

> Svindal can win his 17th World Cup race in all disciplines, which would put him one win behind Lasse Kjus (18) for second place all-time among Norwegian alpine skiers. Kjetil André Aamodt leads all Norwegians with 21 World Cup victories.

> The nine races on the World Cup Super G circuit last season were won by eight different skiers. Beat Feuz (SUI) was the only skier to win twice.

> The downhill/Super G double at Lake Louise has been achieved twice, by Stephan Eberharter (AUT) in 2002/03 and Bode Miller (USA) in 2004/05.
