The million dollar T20 tournament of BCB is recognized worldwide as one of the most popular T20 domestic leagues. As the demand of the shortest version of cricket was on the rise, BCB launched the first ever BPL on February 2012 to cash on the popularity and turn it into a profitable cricketing event. The franchise based cricketing tournament started with 6 franchise teams in the first season and in the second season, BPL became a 7 team affairs. The lucrative tournament attracted a lot of international starts including superstars like Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Shaun Tait, Brade Hodge, ensuring the high standard of cricket as well as bringing a lot more glamour. On the other hand, local players received a much deserving monetary security playing in this multi-million dollar tournament. Both editions of the tournament were televised worldwide, a first for a domestic cricket league of the country.
