Patch Adams Makes a House Call to Boiron’s Headquarters

by boiron on November 3rd, 2010

Boiron USA President & CEO Ludovic Rassat and Patch Adams

Boiron played host to a very special guest yesterday when Patch Adams, MD came to our corporate headquarters in Newtown Square to meet with team members and take a tour of our lab. While many may know him from the 1998 movie that bore his name and starred Robin Williams, Patch (he insisted on being called Patch!) is a nationally known speaker on wellness, laughter and humor, as well as on health care and health care systems. He founded the non-profit organization Gesundheit! Institute in 1971 to provide holistic medical care based on the belief that “one cannot separate the health of the individual from the health of the family, the community, the world, and the health care system itself.”

In 2007, Adams and the Gesundheit! Board unveiled its campaign to raise $1 million toward building a Teaching Center and Clinic on its land in West Virginia. The Center and Clinic will enable Gesundheit to see patients and teach health care design.  Patch’s clinic will be free, and care will be based on the principles of compassion and friendship. All manner of complementary care including homeopathy will be practiced. And yes, the atmosphere will be infused with fun because he firmly believes that laughter, joy and creativity are an integral part of healing.

All of us at Boiron were touched by his obvious dedication and empathy for his patients and his continued delight in the practice of medicine. You can find out more about Patch and his organization, and how you can support his hospital building project and others by visiting www.patchadams.org.
