Five Hartford museums worth following on Facebook

The Wadsworth Atheneum is worth following on Facebook.

It's no secret that the Hartford area has a lot of museums, and they are all fighting for visitors. Social media is a great tool for them to generate interest because museums are all about showcasing cool stuff! You may be surprised to learn how interesting a place you pass by everyday but never go in can be. Whether it's sharing a photo of an antique dental drill or promoting the next Liquid Lounge, Facebook is enhancing the relationships local attractions have with the public.

  1. The Wadsworth Atheneum - as of today, the Wadsworth has more than 9,200 Facebook likes. They do a good job keeping fans informed about upcoming events, showcasing their collection, and posting items that inspire users to comment or share their content.
  2. The Connecticut Science Center - with more than 20,000 visits to date logged on their Facebook page, the Science Center is doing a great job getting check-ins. Could this be due to the hugely popular adults-only Liquid Lounge events? They post content promoting other area attractions also.
  3. The Mark Twain House - if you're wondering how an old stuffy house would have anything good to put on Facebook, you definitely need to look at the link. From funny photos of staff to articles about guest speakers, this is a great page to follow.
  4. Harriet Beecher Stowe Center - as one Yelp review states, "if you're already in the neighborhood to visit the Mark Twain House, there's no excuse not to visit the Stowe House too." The Stowe Center is not as well known as some other Hartford attractions, but it has a great mission that everyone should know about, which is to connect Stowe's anti-slavery writing to issues we face in society today.
  5. Connecticut Historical Society - another smaller museum, the CHS posts photos of current exhibitions, and some are really worth checking out! Who knew historic anesthesia supplies could be so interesting.

Local museums and other nearby attractions can be a fun addition to your Facebook news feed. You may discover that it's worth making an in person visit too!
