As Auckland’s population grows so does the demand for transport options to move people around the city.
Unlocking public transport and unclogging our roads are important factors in creating the world’s most liveable city.
As well as investment in roading and footpath projects, this LTP includes a range of major projects to get the city moving, such as the City Rail Link, and increased opportunities for people to use public transport.
An efficient and effective transport system is essential to
Auckland's well-being as a city. Council has highlighted the need for major
investment in our transport. To help drive transformation, we've identified key
projects including:
- The City Rail Link (CRL) is approved and Auckland Transport will start
preliminary work. No construction will begin until funding has been
confirmed
- We've allocated funding for the new EMUS (electric trains)
- South Western Airport Multi Modal Corridor Project (commonly called the
airport link), cycling and walking infrastructure, Penlink, the Albany
Highway, and Dominion Road upgrades
- Significant investment in buses.
Auckland Transport has adopted its RLTP, which was
consulted on at the same time as the LTP.
