Jan 15: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presents to the Anti-Defamation League’s Glass Leadership Institute Meeting & Dinner on immigration reform.

Jan. 16: AT&T’s 2014 MLK Celebration – “I am the Dream: Legends of a New Era”: Jerry Gonzalez was honored by AT&T for the work being accomplished with GALEO and the Latino community.

Jan 24: GALEO worked to shape the discussion on immigration for Leadership Atlanta’s discussion, “The Economic Impact of Immigration: Do Facts Matter?”

Jan 27: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, actively participated in the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming Initiative meeting.

Jan 28: Jerry Gonzalez presented to the Gwinnett Multicultural Advisory Committee on immigration reform and the Georgia Latino Vote.

Feb 5: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, attended the New Americans Celebration at the State Capitol which was coordinated by a collaboration of the refugee serving organizations.

Feb 10: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in the AALAC Legislative Breakfast where U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Gwinnett) discussed immigration reform.

Feb 17: GALEO Meeting in Gainesville regarding ongoing plans for GOTV and elimination of at-large voting process with African American community leaders.

Feb. 18: ACCESS & GALEO: An evening of conversation, fellowship & cinema before & at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. Immigration related films were part of the joint collaboration.

Feb 21: GALEO Institute for Leadership at Georgia State University conducted a visit to the Georgia Legislature and State Capitol with GALEO. They met with State Legislators, met with Latino staffers and toured the Capitol.

March 4: GALEO Participated with ACLU By The People Lobby Day on Immigrants’ Rights.

March 7: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, read a bilingual book to students at Unidos Dual Language Charter School in Forest Park, GA.

March 10: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in a press conference by the Coalition for the People’s Agenda on voting rights at the State Capitol.

March 14: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presented at a forum for “Foro Informativo: Reforma Migratoria & Derechos de los Padres en las Escuelas” at the APS Humphries Elementary School in Atlanta, GA.

March 21: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in the CAMINO Program by providing the keynote address to encourage Latino students and families in continuing their education for college. Over 100 parents and students attended the event hosted by Savannah State University.

March 26: GALEO was a principle speaker at the Fast For Families bus tour stop in Atlanta. Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, also fasted for 24 hours to support these efforts. Also, GALEO encouraged participation at the AALAC & 9to5 “Fast then Feast for Families to support Immigration Reform”.

March 28: GALEO hosted a meeting with Venezuelan activists visiting the United States to discuss democracy issues and community mobilization. GALEO also coordinated the meeting of the visiting foreigners to meet with local Venezuelan activists supportive of change in Venezuela.

March 29: GALEO conducted the “Lobby Training for Immigration Reform Day” in Lawrenceville, GA.

March 31: 7th Annual Cesar Chavez Day Ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol. Also, GALEO At the MOVIES! Cesar Chavez film for GALEO members and volunteers.

April 4: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, provided the keynote address at the Texas A&M’s Memorial Student Conference’s Student Conference On Latino Affairs (SCOLA). Over 150 Latino college students from around the state of Texas heard Gonzalez’s comments on immigration reform and the importance of mobilizing the Latino vote.

April 5: GALEO supported and had members participate with the “GLAHR: Walk with US” march in support of immigration reform.

April 10: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presents on the need for immigration reform to the DeKalb Women’s Council of Realtors Monthly Meeting.

April 12: GALEO, the Latin American Association (LAA) and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) partnered to host an LPR to U.S. citizenship application assistance day.

April 15: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, joined the Holy Week Pilgrimage for Immigrants in Lawrenceville, GA.

April 17: GALEO participated in the LAA’s Companeros Luncheon honoring Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed for Outstanding Public Service and encouraged him to do more on immigration reform.

April 17: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in the Red Clay Democrats meeting and discussed nonpartisan perspective on immigration reform and voting rights.

April 21: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, Estela Martinez, GA DREAMer, and Rocky Rawcliffe, Kuck Immigration Partners conducted a forum for Latino community members on immigration reform in Macon, GA.

April 28: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, addressed students at Dalton State College on immigration reform and voting issues and met with local activists regarding the at-large voting situation with the City of Dalton.

May 6: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, attends the hearing in Fulton County Court against the Board of Regents on the ban of access to higher education to Georgia DREAM’ers. Gonzalez was there for moral support of the Georgia DREAM’ers and their efforts for education access.

May 11: GALEO conducts voter registration and engagement on immigration reform at a Latino festival conducted by the Spanish radio station La Raza at Lake Lanier, in Gainesville, GA.

May 16: 11th Annual GALEO Power Breakfast was a huge success with a keynote address by Jason Esteves, Georgia’s first and only Latino elected official to any school board, representing the Atlanta Public Schools.

May 20-23: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, and as a trustee of the Sapelo Foundation, participates in the Grantmakers Concerned for Immigrants Rights National Conference in Nashville, TN.   Yehimi Cambron, GALEO Member, was honored for her documentary film.

May 22: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, was honored by “2014 Caribbean American Movers & Shakers” award.

May 27: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, acting as Chair of the State Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, was able to obtain approval of a report on immigration and the impact of HB87 on Georgia’s Latinos and foreign born population. The committee voted to approve the release of the report.

May 28: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in the inaugural meeting of the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming Initiative, hosted and convened by Mayor Kasim Reed.

June 5: GALEO travels to Baxley, GA to discuss immigration reform with local Latino leaders and to train volunteers on registering voters for the upcoming 2014 elections. Additionally, GALEO honors Georgia State Senator Tommie Williams (R-Lyons) for his support in opposition of a legislative initiative that would have banned access to driver’s licenses to DACA students.

June 7: Georgia Latino Vote canvassing of homes and Latino voters begins in Gwinnett County.

June 10: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, conducted a meeting for Public Safety of the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming Initiative.

June 16: GALEO & American Jewish Committee co-hosted “2014 Charla and Challah: The Conversation Continues” where GALEO addressed immigration issues.

June 19: GALEO participates in the committee for Civic Engagement for the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming Initiative.

June 23: GALEO Participated in a phone press conference conducted by ProGeorgia responding to the U.S. Supreme Court’s Shelby decision.

July 2: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, conducted a meeting for Public Safety of the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming Initiative.

July 22: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in a meeting for the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming Initiative.

July 26: Georgia Latino Vote conducted another canvassing event in Lawrenceville, GA.

July 30: Governor Nathan Deal had a meeting with Latino leaders regarding the unaccompanied minor children and their potential placement in Georgia. The Governor expressed sincere interest in ensuring the best outcome for the children’s safety and demonstrated a willingness to continue to hear from our community on these issues. The meeting was arranged by GALEO Chairman Tony Del Campo.

July 30: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, co-hosted Excelencia in Education’s reception at SCAD. This initiative is important to bring attention to the Latino educational efforts.

July 31: The GALEO Leadership Council conducted a Phone Banking event targeting Latino Voters for the Town Hall Meeting with U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Gwinnett).

Aug. 6: GALEO conducted a Town Hall Meeting with U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Gwinnett) and Latino voters. This was an important first step with the Congressman and more work needs to be done. Over 50 Latino voters attended and asked various questions directly to the Congressman regarding immigration.

Aug. 9: Georgia Latino Vote canvassing continued in Gwinnett County.

Aug. 11: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, met with journalists from Cancun, Mexico regarding Southwest Airlines’ new direct flights to Cancun.

Aug. 16: Georgia Latino Vote canvassing continued in Gwinnett County.

Aug. 18: Meeting with community leaders in Gainesville regarding the Georgia Latino Vote.

Aug. 18-22: Registered voters at the University of North Georgia.

Aug. 24: Peachtree Latino Festival registered voters and promoted engagement on immigration reform.

August 28: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presented to the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia’s monthly breakfast meeting on the growing importance of the Georgia Latino Vote.

Sept. 2: GALEO met with Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner on the proposed resolution to stop honoring ICE holds.

Sept. 3: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, provided testimony in support of Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner’s resolution on stopping the Fulton County Sheriff from honoring ICE holds. The Fulton County Commission voted in favor of the resolution, making Fulton County the first jurisdiction to do this in Georgia.

Sept. 17: Leadership Atlanta conducted a presentation on the “Changing Face of Atlanta” and immigration was discussed.

Sept. 18: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in a panel discussion on immigration for the Religion Newswriters Association Pre-Conference at Emory University. Religion, Immigration & Politics – Midterms 2014. John Blake, CNN (Moderator); Robbie Jones, Public Religion Research Institute; Merle Black, Emory University; Suzii Paynter, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship; Teresa Fry Brown, Emory University; and Jerry Gonzalez, Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO).

Sept. 19-20: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, and Leadership Atlanta trustee, provides insight and testimonial to Leadership Atlanta’s Race Day. This was the continuing evolution of Leadership Atlanta on broadening the discussion about race to include other ethnicities. Gonzalez will continue to play an integral role with Leadership Atlanta on this evolution.

Sept. 21: Registered voters at the Snellville international Festival.

Sept. 23: National Voter Registration Day at Georgia Gwinnett College and Gwinnett Technical College.

Sept. 26: 2014 Hispanic Heritage Month Breakfast hosted our Keynote Speaker, Richard Blanco, President Obama’s 2013 Inaugural Poet. He was the 1st Latino Inaugural Poet, 1st openly gay Inaugural Poet, and first immigrant to have the honor. This was our largest and most successful fundraising event to date.

Oct. 2: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, conducted two workshops about leadership and voting at the AT&T Hacemos Hispanic Corporate Council of Atlanta. Over 200 Latino professionals attended the event.

Oct. 3: Voter Registration drive at Emory University & at the Tabernacle for the Rise Against Concert.

Oct. 4: GALEO conducted voter registration and immigration reform engagement at the 2014 Feria Hispana de la Salud in Lilburn, GA. GALEO also was followed by a reporter from the L.A. Times.

Oct 5: GALEO conducted voter registration activities at churches in Gainesville, GA.

Oct. 7: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presented at the Georgia Gwinnett College’s “Green & Grey Perspectives Forum: Immigration Reform”. There were over 200 students & faculty that attended.

Oct. 8: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in another meeting of the Welcoming Initiative for the City of Atlanta.

Oct. 10: GALEO and ProGeorgia partners with County Elections Officials’ leadership launch the #PostThePeach initiative to encourage Georgia voters to vote early.

Oct. 13: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, promoted early voting by casting his vote and encouraging the #PostThePeach campaign.   Mainstream and Spanish media covered this event.

Oct. 15: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, was part of a panel discussion on immigration for Founders Day with African American religious leaders.

Oct. 16-17:   Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, as Chair of the State Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission for Civil Rights attended the forum in Orlando, Florida on the impact of “Stand Your Ground” laws on the civil rights of minorities conducted by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.

Oct. 21: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presented to the inaugural class of the Center for Civil & Human Rights’ Immigration Dialogue.

Oct. 28: Georgia Latino Vote Phone banking to GOTV.

Oct. 29: Phone Press Conference with national and local media regarding the Georgia Latino Vote and the partnership between GALEO & the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) on joint mailings and phone targeting for GOTV efforts for the election.

Oct. 31: GALEO participated in a GOTV Rally with Dolores Huerta at Plaza Fiesta.

Nov. 1: German and Japanese journalists follow GALEO during our GOTV efforts.

Nov. 4: Election Day phone assistance, Election Protection at Precincts & GOTV efforts. Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, was also on air with Univison Atlanta to discuss election results that evening.

Nov. 7: GALEO participated in the final round of judging of the Great Latino Debate at the University of North Georgia in Gainesville. The topic was about the at-large voting process and how it dilutes the Latino community’s ability to elect candidates of choice. Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, provided one of the keynote addresses during the closing ceremony. The winners of the event were also featured on Univision News.

Nov. 8 – 10: GALEO participated in the Sapelo Foundation’s Musgrove Conference for New Americans.

Nov. 12-14: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, moderated a panel discussion at the Southeastern Council of Foundations entitled “Proving Ground: Immigrants, Education and the Future of the Southeast.”

Nov. 15: Graduation of the GALEO Institute for Leadership Class of 2014.

Nov. 17: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, presented a Guest Lecture on “Immigration & Georgia” to graduate students at Georgia State University.

Nov. 19: GALEO participated and promoted the American Jewish Committee’s 10th Annual Thanksgiving Diversity BREAKFAST.

Nov. 20: GALEO hosts a watch party in Gainesville, GA with President Obama’s Executive Action on immigration reform. Mainstream and Spanish media covered the event.

Nov. 20: Diana Vela, GALEO DACA canvasser & volunteer from Gainesville, participated in a live panel discussion for CNN en Espanol on President Obama’s Executive Action.

Nov. 26: GALEO hosts a meeting with immigrant rights and refugee serving groups on the 2015 Georgia Legislative session.

Dec. 2: GALEO co-hosted the “Elson Lecture: Gary M. Segura, Latino America: How America’s Most Dynamic Population is Poised to Transform the Politics of the Nation” held at the Atlanta History Center.

Dec. 6: GALEO hosts Latinos and immigrants at the Atlanta History Center for recording their personal stories at StoryCorps.

Dec. 9-11: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, and as trustee for the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, attended the Funders Committee on Civic Participation winter convening in Washington, DC.

Dec. 12: Jerry Gonzalez, GALEO, and as the Georgia Chair of the State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights presented a summary to the national commission on the immigration report issued earlier in the year.

Dec. 15: GALEO Holiday Social/Tamales for Justice event was conducted to raise funds for our Latino Voter Defense Fund.

Dec. 16: GALEO hosted a meeting in Gainesville to continue discussions on the elimination of the at-large voting process within the City of Gainesville. The meeting was hosted by Rev. Monsignor Jaime Barona at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Gainesville, GA.

Dec. 18: Mundo Hispanico honored Jerry Gonzalez as “Latino Activist” of the year during their “Personajes Destacados” award ceremony.
