Joan Carter

UM Holdings Ltd Joan Carter is co-founder and President of UM Holdings Ltd., a private company that began in 1973 as a heart clinic providing stress testing and cardiac rehabilitation. In 1981 the company went public as United Medical Corporation with a name change to UM Holdings Ltd when it returned to private ownership in 1993.

Ms. Carter is Vice Chairman Cybex International, a company owned by UM Holdings that manufactures premium quality fitness equipment in the USA which is sold globally primarily to commercial fitness facilities. She also serves on the Board of EHE International, the nation’s oldest and largest provider of physical examinations which is owned and operated by UM Holdings.

Ms. Carter serves on the Board of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, is a former Director of CarrAmerica (NYSE:CRE) and is former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. A graduate of the College of Wooster, she currently serves on that school's Board of Trustees, is a Trustee of The Lourdes Health System and is the immediate past President of the Union League of Philadelphia, the first woman President in the League’s 150 year history. She is a member of The Cato Institute, the Chevalier des Tastevin, the Pennsylvania Women's Forum, Women Corporate Directors, and the Penjerdel Council.

Ms. Carter received the prestigious 2011 Musser Leadership Award from Temple University, the 2012 Adam Smith Award from Economics Pennsylvania and holds the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Wooster. A frequent speaker on issues of women and business, she resides in Haddonfield, New Jersey with her husband and business partner, John Aglialoro.
