LOS ANGELES, CA (December 13, 2011) – The Producers Guild of America (PGA), announced today that IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY will be honored with the 2012 Stanley Kramer Award. The film’s producers will be honored with the award at the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 21st at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Stanley Kramer Award was established in 2002 to honor a motion picture, producer or other individual, whose achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion. Kramer created some of the most respected and successful works in the annals of American motion pictures, with such classics as THE CAINE MUTINY, HIGH NOON, THE DEFIANT ONES, and GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER.

Previous recipients of the Kramer award include such films as THE GREAT DEBATERS, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, HOTEL RWANDA, IN AMERICA, ANTWONE FISHER, and the 2011 winner Sean Penn. Sean Penn was the first individual to receive the Guild’s Stanley Kramer A ward.

"IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY is an extraordinary film that portrays a complex love story set against the terrors of the Bosnian War, especially towards women,” said Producers Guild Presidents Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon. "This film truly embraces the legacy of Stanley Kramer.”

"We are extremely honored that the Guild has chosen to recognize our film,” shared producers Tim Headington, Angelina Jolie, Graham King and Tim Moore. "We are truly privileged to join the ranks of past recipients and to be associated with the great Stanley Kramer.”

Set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War that tore the Balkan region apart in the 1990s, IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY tells the story of Danijel (Goran Kostić) and Ajla (Zana Marjanović), two people from different sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs, and Ajla, a Bosnian held captive in the camp he oversees, knew each other before the war, and could have found love with each other. But as the armed conflict takes hold of their lives, their relationship grows darker, their motives and connection to one another ambiguous, their allegiances uncertain. IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY portrays the incredible emotional, moral and physical toll that the war exerts both on individuals and people as a whole and the terrible consequences that stem from the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict.

Film District presents a GK Films Production, IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY, directed and written by Angelina Jolie and produced by Tim Headington, Angelina Jolie, Graham King and Tim Moore. The film stars Zana Marjanović, Goran Kostić, Rade Šerbedžija, Vanesa Glodjo and Nikola Djurićko, and is executive produced by Holly Goline with associate producer Simon Crane.
