Bruce Willis is a man who loves savin’ the ladies as much as he enjoys sweet-talkin’ them, and in this month’s Live Free or Die Hard (a.k.a. Die Hard Cuatro) the distressed damsel is the lovely 22-year-old Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Bruce’s daughter, Lucy McClane. Like her cop-on-the-edge pop, Lucy’s a hellion—“I’m feisty, and I get to throw some punches”—but when she’s kidnapped by terrorists, it’s Yippee-Ki-Yay-Mofo (perhaps: this installment might be PG-13) time as Bruce rumbles to the rescue and, presumably, an executive-pleasing opening weekend. “I’m looking forward to a big blockbuster, hopefully,” says Winstead, whose previous résumé boasts eye-catching turns in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof (QT’s half of the Grindhouse oeuvre), Emilio Estevez’s Bobby, and NBC’s soap opera Passions. And let’s not forget Winstead’s role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (starring Donny Osmond!), which she played when she was 12 without punching anyone. “It was kind of an over-the-top show,” Winstead says, “but it could not have been more fun.”
