Charlton have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Chris Eagles on a deal until the end of the season, the club announced on Thursday afternoon.

The 29-year-old has been registered in time to be considered for selection in Friday evening’s game against Wigan Athletic (7.45pm) and will wear the number nine shirt at The Valley.

“He will be with us tomorrow and I am sure he will help us,” said Head Coach Guy Luzon of the new signing.

“He is an attacking midfielder who can also play behind a striker. He is a player with quality and a good character.”

Eagles left Bolton Wanderers following a three-year stay at the end of the 2013/14 campaign and had a short-term spell at Blackpool earlier this season.

He played seven times for the Seasiders and his one goal came in the 2-2 draw at The Valley in December.

Eagles turned professional at Manchester United and played for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the Premier League before moving to Burnley.

He scored seven goals in his first season for the Clarets which coincided with them winning promotion and he played 34 games for them in the top flight the following year.

He scored 15 goals for Burnley in their first year back in the Championship before making the move to Bolton.

“We touched base [with Charlton] last season, but Bolton wouldn’t let me come,” said Eagles, who first trained with his teammates on Monday before signing on Thursday morning.

“I came down Monday, trained, had a fitness test and everything was alright. Then on Wednesday night I agreed to it. I just wanted to get it done.

“I’ve had a great feeling about being here, it’s a massive club.

“I’m over the moon to be here and as soon as I knew they wanted to sign me it didn’t matter what they offered me I just wanted to be here.”
