Proposals to run old London Underground trains on routes in northern England would see travellers getting the south's "cast offs", a union has said.

Refitted District Line carriages are being offered as an affordable way to replace ageing Pacer trains.

Police investigating the death of a six-week-old baby boy have released a photo of a woman they want to speak to. The woman in the photo was seen at Tooting Broadway station, in south London, on Thursday 27 November at 20:40.

She was believed to have seen the baby before he died last November. The child was found in Russell Road, in the borough of Enfield, unconscious and unresponsive and was pronounced dead at hospital.

A mayor accused of electoral fraud is due to start giving evidence at a special High Court hearing tomorrow.

Lawyers say Lutfur Rahman (pictured) - independent mayor of Tower Hamlets, east London, and leader of a party called Tower Hamlets First (THF) - is likely to spend two days answering questions at an Election Court trial in London.

Four voters have taken legal action against Mr Rahman. They want Election Commissioner Richard Mawrey, who is sitting as a judge at the trial, to declare the result of the May 2014 mayoral election, which saw Mr Rahman elected for a second term, void and order a re-run.

Mr Rahman denies wrongdoing.

Two of London's most prestigious fine art galleries have seen UK visitor numbers fall significantly over the last five years, official figures show. A few days ago, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport sent out a press release stating: "Latest statistics for Government-sponsored museums show two million more visits were made than previous year."

A convicted rapist - who is believed to have killed his parents in a double murder - died of multiple injuries, a post mortem has found. Ashraf Amrani was found dead on the roof of a property on Westbourne Park Road, Paddington, on Friday.

When police went to inform his family, the bodies of his parents Hassan and Zohra Amrani were found at their home in Landor House on the same street. Post-mortem examinations found the cause of death for Mr Amrani were lacerations incised wounds to the abdomen and Mrs Amrani was killed by a blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation injuries.

The Wandsworth Guardian reports a single staffing structure between Richmond and Wandsworth councils would "open up new opportunities" for both boroughs, claims a new report.

The jury in the trial of a mother and her lesbian lover accused of killing her daughter has retired to consider its verdicts at the Old Bailey.

Polly Chowdhury, 35, and Kiki Muddar, 43, are accused of murdering eight-year-old Ayesha Ali at their home in Chadwell Heath in August 2013. They both deny the charges.

Police have said 19-year-old Brusthom Ziamani, who was found guilty of preparing a terrorist act at the Old Bailey, showed how people can quickly develop extremist views when radicalised.

Commander Richard Walton, from the Met Police's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "This case starkly illustrates one of the threats we currently face in the UK. Ziamani was an impressionable young man who became radicalised then rapidly developed an extremist, violent mindset. Over a series of months he ultimately developed a desire to carry out a terrorist attack on British soldiers."

After the verdict was delivered, Ziamani's lawyer Naeem Mian told Judge Timothy Pontius: "Of course the sentence will be one of considerable length but nevertheless he is a young man who has no previous convictions at all."

The court heard Ziamani had been inspired by the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby in 2013, researched Army cadet base sites and boasted of a plot to "kill soldiers".

During the trial, jurors were told how Ziamani had "reverted" to Islam at the beginning of 2014 and was arrested after he had shown his ex-girlfriend weapons.

Ziamani had fallen in with members of al-Muhajiroun - an extremist organisation - after he was "kicked out" of home for converting to Islam in early 2014, the court was told.

He attended the group's talks in the basement of a Halal sweet shop in Whitechapel, east London.

Ziamani, 19, of Camberwell, London, was arrested with a bag containing a 12in knife, a hammer and an "Islamic flag" in east London in August 2014.

He will be sentenced on the 20 March.

The campaign group Stop Killing Cyclists are organising a vigil and die-in on 2 March from 18:00 on Victoria Street, near Bressenden Place, where a woman in her 30s was killed in a collision with a lorry this morning.

London Assembly Green member Darren Johnson pointed out the site, where a woman died today after a collision with a lorry, was near where Katharine Giles was killed in a crash on her bike two years ago.

London Fire Brigade are warning chip pans and deep fat fryers caused nearly one fire a day in the capital's homes last year. The Brigade has released some safety tips:

• Think about replacing your chip pan with an electric fryer - they are safer to use.
• If you have to use a chip pan never fill it more than a third full with oil or fat.
• Take extra care if you've been drinking alcohol - it might be safer to eat a cold snack or get a takeaway than use your fryer.
• Never leave the pan unattended with the heat on - not even for a few seconds.
• Don't put chips in the pan if the oil has started smoking. Turn off the heat and leave the oil to cool down or it could catch fire.

An Interfaith pilgrimage is taking place in central London following the recent terrorist attacks in France and Denmark.

Participants will walk to the Regents Park Mosque, Central Synagogue and Westminster Abbey from 11.00-16.00. The event is organised by alumni from the Cambridge Coexist Leadership Programme.

An entire estate is on lock down for 48 hours in a bid to stop a group of motorbike yobs terrorising residents, reports the Islington Gazette.

Members of the Jewish Community are angry that swastika jewellery is being sold by a Hampstead auction house, reports Ham & High.

They say the gold and diamond swastika-shaped pendant is highly offensive and should be withdrawn from next Tuesday's sale at Hampstead Auctions, in Heath Street, the newspaper said.

A burst water main has been causing commuter mayhem in Hillingdon since the early hours of the morning, reports Get West London.

The pipe on the A404 Pinner Road near Northwood Hills Tube station means the road is closed eastbound between Northwood Hills Circus and the Crossway junction, the newspaper said.

Witnesses said the bicycle could be seen crushed under the second set of wheels of the Gordon Plant Hire truck.

The woman is the fourth cyclist to be killed on London's roads this year. Carnel Jarca, a Big Issue seller, was stood opposite the crash when it happened, said: "I just heard this big sound, a crash, the sound of crushed metal."

The man who was recorded being racially abused by Chelsea fans in a Paris metro station has said they should be "found, punished" and "locked up".

The Paris-born man told Le Parisien: "What was I meant to say to my children? That Dad was pushed and shoved in the Metro because he's black? That's hopeless."

A cyclist has died after being involved in a collision with a tipper truck in central London this morning.

The Met Police and London Ambulance were called just before 08:00 to Victoria Street, near to Victoria Palace in Westminster, where they found an unresponsive woman in her 30s. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Local road closures are in place and motorists are being advised to find alternative routes.

A baby girl from Walthamstow who was born with cancer has died after her parents accepted there was nothing more doctors could do for her.

The Queen is due to reopen the newly refurbished Canada House today.

The building, which overlooks Trafalgar Square, is home to the Canadian High Commission and was first opened by the Queen's grandfather, George V, in 1925.

It has been extensively remodelled to consolidate the Canadian high commission's diplomatic activities in the UK in one location. We'll publish some photos here later of the visit.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has told BBC London 94.9 he has not made any contact with Michael Laudrup over the managerial position at Loftus Road.

Laudrup was reported to be the "dream candidate" referred to by Fernandes on social media.
