Zyxomma petiolatum Rambur, 1842 Photo taken in Chiang Mai (Thailand) on 2010-03-29
Spotted this specimen at a small pond at the base of Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai. Was very difficult to photograph as it was low down and hidden amongst bushes.
A male - and the only one I saw.
Many, many thanks to my oracle for odonata - Noppadon Makbun for the I.D.
Zyxomma petiolatum Rambur, 1842 Photo taken in Sabah (Malaysia) on 2007-10-18
Zyxomma petiolatum is recognized by somber brown colors and big green eyes with very slender abdomen swollen at base basally then follow by exceedingly thin segments.
Female abdomen usually thicker but not for this female. This female abdomen is as thin as a male because she is still immature.
Zyxomma petiolatum Rambur, 1842 Photo taken in Sabah (Malaysia) on 2007-10-18
Sabah has 2 species in this Zyxomma genus. Both are like night owls that start activity before sunset and flies well into the dusk. Both species are attracted to light.
As a mater of fact, this female Zyxomma petiolatum flew directly to the fluorescent tube around 6:00pm in my sitting room.
