GRAHAM NORTON presents a wonderful trip down memory lane of the nations 100 greatest number one singles, from Bill Haley's Comets, via George Michael's hairdo in the 1984 Do They Know It's Christmas era, to Groovejet's Ibiza 2000 anthem. The songs elected by the viewers reflect the changing tastes of the record-buying public over the past half a century since charts were introduced. Classic pop music is about much more than just music, it's about memories and emotions. From adolescent angst to the last dance, music provides the soundtracks to our lives. This four-hour programme will count down the songs and artists that make up that soundtrack, from 100 to 1, as voted by the British public. The show includes interviews with those responsible for writing, recording and inspiring the hits, including BOB GELDOF, MOBY, YOKO ONO, SMOKEY ROBINSON, GLORIA GAYNOR and COOLIO, and there's a special look at the five songs we all love to hate.
