Alex Wek
Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel

Alek Wek is an international supermodel, commanding huge fees for her appearances on the cat walk and on the cover of fashion magazines. Her early life couldn’t have been more different. She was born in the Sudan and was forced to leave her home because of civil war. She and her family endured starvation and witnessed terrible violence. Eventually she came to Britain as a child refugee. As a teenager she was spotted by a talent scout at a market in Crystal Palace. She joins Jenni to talk about her amazing life, about racism in the fashion industry and about her work to draw attention to the ongoing suffering in her country.

Alek by Alek Wek is published by Virago on November 8th  £11.99
