5.0 out of 5 stars Another Picture Well Painted!!
I am not a highly sophisticated music review Dude, I am just an Ole Boy who grew up country, but this album like Brad had done in the past, paints a nice picture of many fond memories of growing up in rural America.. I do believe any Brad Paisley fan will be more than happy with this album/CD/MP-3, as they take it all the way to "Riverbank."...." Brad, thanks...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing for a long time fan.
I was really disappointed when I played this for the first time. Unlike his past albums, there wasn't one song that hooked me and made me want to hear it again. That's a big departure for me for a Brad Paisley record. I'm still playing "Wheelhouse" today, and "This is Country Music." I had "Mud on the Tires" going the other day. I've since played...

I've since played it a few more times, and I won't say I hate it, but it's definitely my least favorite Brad Paisley album. The best song is probably "Crushin' It," followed by "River Bank." Some of the other songs are fun to listen to, such as "Limes," "4WP," and the title track. The guitar playing is stellar, as always, and there are plenty of clever lyrics. But ultimately, the whole thing comes across as vacuous. There's just nothing there. I'm still a huge fan, however. I have all the albums, and I'll certainly buy the next one, too!

Not a bad album, but just not up to the quality of any of his work before Wheelhouse. Some smiles and some catchy tunes, but just not the "wow" I was hoping for. Pull any one of his previous albums and take it for a spin and you will agree this is not up to the standards Brad set for himself.

I love this album!!! I literally have not taken it out of my car CD player since I received it. If I had to describe it in one word that word would be FUN! The album starts off with "Crushin' It" and that's exactly what Brad does with this album. I loved "River Bank" since I first saw him perform it on one of the country music award shows."Perfect Storm" is a nice power ballad. "High Life" (with Carrie Underwood) is an funny look at a bunch of low life's living the high life. My favorite line is "Just like that we were thousandaires". "Moonshine In The Trunk" was the song that Brad opened his concert with when he played here in Atlanta last month. I didn't know it when he played it but it was a rockin' song. I don't mind some rock in my country, especially with the talent that Brad plays his Telecaster with. "Shattered Glass" is another fine power ballad followed by "Limes" with a back beat very reminiscent of Reba's "Turn On The Radio". The remainder of the album is just as good. One other standout is "Gone Green" sung with Emmylou Harris. One of the few albums in a long time where I really liked every song on it. Brad hits one deep out of the park.

This album takes off like a shot and keeps it going - in fact, the only time we really slow down for a softer ballad is on the bonus track ("Me and Jesus", just Brad playing an acoustic and singing, which is not listed on the track listing here). "Crushin It" is such a great way to kick it off - again, think of the energy at the beginning of Time Well Wasted with "The World" to get an idea of the feel here, or at least the energy level.

If there is any difficulty here, it is that the sound is so big, and the band is playing with so much energy, that by the forty-minute mark it can become a little fatiguing on the ear. Oddly, though, in small doses this is amazing stuff, with over the top guitar work and a rhythm section so tight they could tear the roof off at the drop of a hat. Too bad the dynamic stays so high for so long - it would have pushed this album over the top for there to be a few softer moments to break up the high levels.

Guest stars include Carrie Underwood (on the hilarious High Life - great to see Brad still has the same great sense of humor first seen on "The Cigar Song" from Mud on the Tires), Emmylou Harris and Bryan Sutton.

One other minor knock is that it seems Brad is sometimes panders a little bit too much with a song like "Country Nation"... almost like he's writing for a focus group. It might not matter at all to some folks, but it seems to me a little strained, a little too Disney-fied.

That said, this is a great CD. The band is playing so well and with so much skill and emotion it's really one of the best country albums I've heard yet (in 2014), with enough crossover appeal to be interesting to anyone who just enjoys good music (musicians especially - check out the guitar work here!).

Highly recommended for both Brad Paisley fans and newcomers. Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brad's back!, September 9, 2014
This review is from: Moonshine In The Trunk (Audio CD)
love it! Moonshine in the Trunk represent a return to simpler music for Brad after the more ambitious (and great) wheelouse. This album features some great works: river bank is the perfect summer song, moonshine in the trunk is a lovely upbeat song and gone green is a great bluegrass peice that brings us back to Brad's songs such as the best thing that I had going

This album was not quite what I would expect from Paisley. He is a great songwriter and singer as well.
I found some of the songs on this album to be just okay. He always manages to write songs that display his sense of humor.
This album still has a few good songs but not as many as I'm use to from his albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brad's 'Crushin' It' with This One!, August 27, 2014
This review is from: Moonshine In The Trunk (Audio CD)
I love Brad Paisley's music. Got all his albums, this one, of course, being the newest to my collection. I loved 'Part II', 'Mud on the Tires', and 'Wheelhouse', and this one now makes that list! Picked it up at Wal-Mart for $12 two days after it came out. It's got a Great selection of new country hits on the playlist. 'Moonshine in the Trunk' is a must for Country fans of all types. Now Country Music has to be more experienced than described, but I will give you a brief description of each song, just so you get the gist of them.

'Crushin' It' is the first song on the CD, and is a good start to the album, about life throwing you around, living for the weekend, and sucking down Miller Lite with your girl. Surely you've heard it on the Radio, 'River Bank' was the single/teaser for the album, with Brad's own country twang, and is much like 'Crushin' It', about him winning $10 and bringing all his friends down to the riverbank for a good time. 'Perfect Storm' is about him falling hard for the girl of his dreams. 'High Life', featuring Carrie Underwood, is about a Low-Middle Class family inheriting thousands of dollars and blowing it like that (snap!), then randomly coming into more money along the way, a very fun song! 'Moonshine in the Trunk' is about him and his girlfriend speeding in his car, having a good time, and driving like the Cops are chasing them, with Moonshine in their Trunk. 'Shattered Glass' is a very nice piece about Brad telling his daughter to go for it, and follow her passions in life. 'Limes' is like the first two tracks, being about 'When Life Gives You Limes, Make Margaritas'. 'You Shouldn't Have To' is about him seeing this girl and saying all the things she CAN do, but what she SHOULDN'T HAVE to do. '4WP' stand for 4-Wheel Park in this track about putting his car into park, and making out with his girlfriend. 'Cover Girl' is about Brad's girlfriend getting hired to model for Covergirl cosmetics, and how all the other covergirls will find out how beautiful his girlfriend already is. 'Gone Green' is about the Eco-Freak-isation of the US, and how Brad's REDneck world is 'Going Green'; I'm still not sure if this track is mocking or supporting the 'Save-the-Trees' idiots. 'JFK 1962' if basically a short quiet guitar/fiddle solo put to a JFK speech, but it is basically the intro to 'American Flag on the Moon', which is about how America needs to shape World History like we have for 240 years. 'Country Nation' is about how ALL of America is still American at Heart, with 2,000 country stations across the country. There is a hidden track, being #15, Called 'Jesus and Me', about how him and Jesus have a good thing going, and no one has to tell him 'What It's About'. Amen, Brad.

My favorite tracks are 'Crushin' It', 'River Bank', 'High Life', 'Moonshine in the Trunk', 'Shattered Glass', '4WP', 'American Flag on the Moon', 'Country Nation' and 'Jesus and Me'. This is a great Brad CD, and I recommend it to all Country fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moonshine in the Trunk, September 22, 2014
This review is from: Moonshine In The Trunk (Audio CD)
this album is really great. Paisley lights up the party with feel good summer anthems (crushin it, river bank, moonshine in the trunk, limes, but he also takes some time to reflect, encouraging people to follow their dreams (American Flag on the Moon) and women to understand how much they can do (Shattered Glass). Paisley honors the girl he loves in songs such as You Shouldn't Have To and Cover Girl and then goes romantic and sweet in Perfect Storm, while in 4wp he pokes fun at bro-country. country nation celebrates country music and its people. the album is highlighted by the straight ahead country tunes High Life and Gone Green. Gone Green is a bluegrass tinged gem with an environmental message on it and it also features Emmylou Harris on vocals. Me and Jesus closes up the set, and it's a powerful acoustic gospel ballad. overall the album is pretty strong, fun, well produced and clever. It is the perfect summer soundtrack. You'll love it!

I think Brad Paisley's the best thing happening in any form of music right now. It's a beautifully produced album. The sonics are amazing. I've at times questioned his guitar lead choices in the past. But either he's making better choices or I'm learning to appreciate the uniqueness of his playing. He's a spectacular guitarist. My one disappointment in the album is his song choices. This album is weighted towards the good old country boy selections. Yet this is the man who gave us Officially Alive, Southern Comfort Zone, Welcome to the Future and the brilliant wit of Online. This is a man capable of reaching amazing heights of intelligence and awareness. It's an outstanding album, better than most anybody else could do, but it doesn't quite reach the heights he's capable of.
