Digestive Disorders

The function of the digestive system is to break down the ingested food and extract useful nutrients and dispose off the remaining waste out of the body. Any discrepancies in this process causes digestive disorders. Non infectious digestive disorders mainly develop due to eating disorders, indulging in junk food with high fat content and very less nutritional value, stress, food allergies, genetic factors and a sedentary lifestyle.

Some common digestive disorders:
Indigestion
Indigestion is the most common digestive disorder, which causes discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen. It is more common in adults, and is mainly caused due to stress, excess weight, eating disorders and smoking. A sever indigestion problem can lead to non ulcer dyspepsia, hence, it is very necessary to take proper measures.

Constipation
Constipation is another common digestive disorder and almost every one, some time or the other, faces bouts of constipation. A person suffering from constipation has hard stools that are difficult to pass. It is caused due to lack of fibrous food in your diet. A bout of constipation that lasts for more than 2 weeks and if there is blood along with faces, it should not at all be neglected and one should immediately consult a doctor.

Heartburn
Heartburn occurs when the acid from the stomach splashes out due to improper or excessive eating. Heart burn can happen if you immediately sleep or exercise after a meal. The common symptom of this digestive disorder is burning sensation in the chest accompanied by an uneasy feeling. A healthy lifestyle that includes cutting down on intake of alcohol, carbonated drinks, caffeine, spicy and fried food helps in lessening this problem. People prone to heartburn should stop takingĀ  painkillers and aspirins frequently.

Bloating
Abdominal bloating is a very common problem in which the tummy feels full and tight. In some cases it may look visibly swollen. Bloating also results in cramps and pain in the abdomen. It is a digestive disorder that is commonly caused due to swallowing of air, constipation, over eating, consuming food that is difficult to digest etc. Eating the right food and taking a walk after meals can help you get rid of bloating. Herbal tea is also effective in reducing bloating.

Irritable bowel syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome leads to abdominal pain, cramping, irregular bowel movements, alternatively diarrhoea and constipation etc. Stress and improper food habits trigger IBS or may make it worse. The exact causes are unknown, but IBS is said to occur due to abnormal contractions of muscles in intestinal walls. Sensitivity to certain foods can also cause irritable bowel syndrome. The problems due to IBS and its symptoms can be controlled by making dietary and lifestyle changes.

All those who are born blind, do not have any visual information in their brains. Therefore, they dream about smell, sounds and sensations, but they cannot visualise in their dreams
