That Quilt Along and some Kona help!

I'm very excited to be participating in Jennifer of That Girl.....That Quilt's "That Quilt Along" - it's a first for me!

I debated about selecting a charm pack.....and realized none of them were calling out to me.  So, I decided to try to make use of my stash.  I cut four FQs into a charm pack (fussy cutting one of them even!) and ordered my Kona Solids online.

Does anyone else have trouble picking out the right color online??  I saw that they offer those color charts for around $15 - I wonder if that makes it any easier...

I heard the mail truck pull up (somehow you can't miss it, even as a kid, our mail truck had the same loud seemingly-broken muffler) and went running out.  Ripped open my package...... and........ oh.  Slightly disappointed.

2 yds. Kona Pond and 1 yd. Kona Snow.  Not sure Kona Pond is exactly what I had in mind.  Any thoughts?  Should I reorder something else?  It's only too late once I start cutting....  Here's another pic without Pond if you need a fresh point of view...  Opinions please?!?!

  1. Hmmm... kind of a tough one. I zoomed in on the pic... I'm guessing you were planning on something that was SLIGHTLY more blue?? I think you can use the pond, no problem, but I could also argue rebuying fabric (even though I generally hate the thought). The more I look at it, the more I like them together. I hope that helps... that's why I only buy like solid black or white online - I need to see them in person.

  2. My Kona Color Card was one of the best purchases I have made, especially since I have really started to sew more with solids. The color swatches on the screen never seem to be true. I wish I could help you match your fabrics, but I only have the bikes from your stack. I might choose Peridot or Lime to match those, though.

  3. I think the Kona Pond looks great and you should stick with it. I also have had some problematic purchases online where the "white" that was delivered was nowhere near white. I too have wondered about a color chart. Hopefully someone will chime in about that. I'm doing the That Girl Quilt Along too!

  4. I like your FQ choices, I think the Kona Pond totally works, but maybe a lighter color would look better? Just my 2 cents! The Kona ColorCard is 100% perfecto, totally suggest it!

Some more of my 2 cents, maybe Kona Lake, Kona Aqua, or Kona Seafoam?

  5. I like the white better... My $0.02... I also had a hard time finding a charm pack, mostly because the LQS's only had 1 or 2 to pick from. I decided to make this one for a niece...

  6. I actually like the combo. I like that it doesn't exactly match your cut fabric, but it blends nicely with your colors. I have heard great things about those color cards though.

  7. Ditch the Pond - too sea foamy for me. And the Kona card is worth every cent!

If you want to go blue, Bahama blue and Robin Egg are similar in value to pond, but more blue than green. But personally, I would probably go grey. Maybe even Slate?

  8. I'm reading this on a tiny screen but the pond looks good. I just got a Kona card and I love it! It was a little hard to find but worth the search.

  9. I dig the Pond, but I am also in the market for a Kona Color Card, so I can't give you a perfect pick to go with your FQ's. At least you ordered the right amount of fabric...I only ordered 1 yd of each of my solids - whoops! Just ordered an extra yard today, so I'll be a little behind. Stick with Pond, that's my vote. :)

  10. I just had the same thing happen to me - I ordered Robin's Egg and it just didn't work. I think I'm going to get one of those color cards.

  11. I llke to Kona Pond too. As far as the Kona Card is concerened it's TOTALLY worth investing in one. I love mine.

  12. I like it! But I'm also the kind that doesn't like everything completely "matchy-matchy" :)

I see different blues and greens in your charms and I think the Kona pond would really enhance those colors.

  13. I think they work together! :) Of course, every computer screen processes colors differently, but from what the picture is showing me I like it.

  14. I've been wanting to make a green and turquoise quilt, so I LOVE the way the pond looks with your squares.

Also, I bought the Kona Color chart. SO WORTH IT!

  15. I like the colors, but the combo should really be screaming happy things at you. So, if you're not feeling it, then switch it up. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

  16. I really like the way the top fabrics look together. I say, stick with it.

  17. I have a Kona Card and it's totally worth it. I agree with Angela that the Pond seems a bit sea foamy... Hope someone can help you find the color you were looking for. Were you going for blue or green?

  18. You definitely need a color card! I have one for Kona and one for Moda Bella Solids. I think I got them both online from Hancock's of Paducah? I think you're on the right track with the blue, but like Angela said, Bahama Blue and Robin's Egg might be more what you're looking for.

I LOVE this fabric line! I keep thinking I at least need to get the bikes!

  19. I quite like the Pond...but it's you that has to be happy.

I don't have a colour card, but every time I buy Kona I cut a little snippet and staple it to a card with the colour name on it...I've got quite a few on there now and it serves well until one day I can get a proper card. Also I've found that when I've ordered fabric before I've chosen what I thought was the best Kona match but I've written in the comments secton on the order form that I want to match (for example) the blue in a certain print, and asked them to change the colour I've chosen if necessary. Of course that only works if you are ordering from somewhere with lots of Kona colours :)

  20. I don't think Pond looks bad, but I would suggest getting something else that you'll love. We put so much work into our quilts, it would be a shame to always wonder if you would have liked something else better.
