District Attorney Jon David on Tuesday released the following statement concerning the investigation into the death of 17-year-old Lennon Lee Lacy on Aug. 29:

“The victims family, and the community, can rest assured that a comprehensive investigation is well underway. All death investigations, particularly those involving children, are given top priority by my office. We have been working closely with the Bladenboro Police Department and the State Bureau of investigation since this matter was first reported.

“Our team has been in regular contact with the victim’s family, and representatives working on their behalf, to keep them apprised of the status of the investigation. Moreover, in a show of transparency, my office met with several community leaders last week to update them on the status of this case.

“While the investigation is ongoing, and no final determinations have been made, to date we have not received any evidence of criminal wrongdoing surrounding the death. Anyone with additional information about this matter is encouraged to contact the Bladenboro Police Department.

“The loss of a child is devastating to a family, and difficult for a community to comprehend. We are pleased that the citizens of Bladen County are supporting the family during their time of grief. Investigations are a search for the truth, and I am confident that we have a dedicated team of professionals, and the right process, to achieve justice in this matter.”
