  • 1. What is NYTimes Recommendations?

NYTimes Recommendations creates a personalized list of recommendations, pointing you to NYTimes.com content we think you'll find interesting. Recommendations are based on what you've viewed on NYTimes.com (including the mobile site and apps).

To see your personalized recommendations page, visit http://www.nytimes.com/recommendations. You'll find an overview of your NYTimes.com viewing history, including the number of articles, blog posts, videos and slideshows you've viewed recently and lists of your top sections and topics.

Note: When you're not logged in, your recommendations are based on your browser history. If you haven't viewed enough content for accurate recommendations, the Recommended for You tab is labeled Most Viewed.

  • 2. How does NYTimes Recommendations work?

NYTimes Recommendations uses your viewing history on NYTimes.com, including the mobile site and apps, to identify your most-viewed topics and sections. Based on what you've viewed recently, NYTimes Recommendations suggests additional content you might like. The more time you spend on NYTimes.com, the more accurate the recommendations become.

  • 3. How do I start using NYTimes Recommendations?

There's nothing to set up or install — NYTimes Recommendations is an active part of the site. NYTimes Recommendations uses your viewing history to determine your top sections and topics. To get better recommendations, just keep browsing. New recommendations will appear as we analyze your viewing history.

  • 4. How frequently will I receive new recommendations?

New recommendations will appear as you browse NYTimes.com.

  • 5. Why are you recommending articles I've already read?

You may see recommendations for content you've already viewed if you visit NYTimes.com on multiple computers or mobile devices and do not log in with the same credentials on each of them.

  • 6. Can I remove an article from the list of recommendations?

Yes. To remove an article from the list of recommendations, visit your personalized list of recommendations at http://www.nytimes.com/recommendations. Move your cursor to the headline or summary of the article you'd like to remove. Click the X that appears, and the article will be dismissed.

Note: Removing an article from the list will not influence future recommendations. For example, you may still receive recommendations about animals after dismissing an article about polar bears.

  • 7. Can I customize my top sections?

We don't currently support custom top sections or topics.

  • 8. How do I turn off recommendations?

To disable recommendations, click Don't Show at the bottom of the Recommendations list on the NYTimes.com home page.

If you choose to turn recommendations off, you'll see Most Emailed articles instead. To turn recommendations on, click Show My Recommendations at the bottom of Most Emailed list.
