Tonight saw the largest crowds of the week with the heart of the village packed for the final event of the Monster Energy Shred Show: Snowboard Big Air.

Of the ten men who qualified for the finals earlier in the night, it was Canada’s Maxence Parrot who took the win with an impressive 96.50 for a near perfect backside Triple Cork 1440 Mute grab; and will be going home with $15000. Par
rot who placed 5th in Friday’s 5Star Slopestyle contest comment on his winning trick, “I was really surprised to stomp the triple the first try, I brought it around very fast but it was difficult.” said Parrot, “I am only use to doing it on a lot bigger jumps than this one.” He added. Parrot won a silver medal in Slopestyle at the 6Star X Games Aspen this past January as well as taking first place at the O’Neill Evolution Big Air the week before.

Standing next to Parrot on the podium was Kim Rune Hansen from Norway who executed an impressive switch backside double cork 1260 mute grab on his second run that scored a 93.25. Hansen took 3rd place at Austria’s 5Star Spring Battle last month. Rounding off the podium was Justin Morgan from the USA. Morgan scored a 90.25 for a switch backside double cork 1260 stalefish. “I thought the jump was perfect, it was such a good jump for progression, all night everyone was having fun, I was having fun, it could not have been better.” Said Morgan, “I got to say, I look forward to this event every year because this event is so big, the jumps are huge and the riders are so much fun to ride with, I love it.” he added.

The 5Star Monster Energy Shred Show has come to and end and we look forward to seeing the sponsors, athletes and crowds in Whistler this time next year for what will surely be another spectacular showing of snowboarding talent.

Coming out of the fog that shrouded the Boarderstyle on April 18, all eyes were on the weather for the TTR 5-Star Slopestyle event at Monster Energy’s The Shred Show at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler, BC. Fortune was shining on us though, and eventually the sun was too. After a brief hold while a cloud raced through, the sky cracked open allowing a clear final heat consiting of two runs down the Blackcomb Terrain Park slopestyle course.

Straight out of the gate the competition was heated and several riders put down runs that could have put them on the podium, but in the end it was Norway’s Emil Ulsletten who edged out American Eric Willett for the top spot and $15k. In his first win of the season Ulsletten used the 3 rail features and 3 jumps to pull off a sick run that included 2 stylish double corks. Canadian Tyler Nicholson pulled together a solid run after a nasty crash during qualifiers to reach the last spot on the podium.

The consistently improving weather has the stage set for Saturday night’s TTR 5-Star Big Air contest in the Whistler Village where another 25 thousand dollars will be given away. Stay tuned.

April showers bring May flowers – well, if that saying is true, we’ll be seeing some nice floral additions to the Superpark Dachstein. However, tricky weather conditions at the QParks Snowboard Tour Final last Saturday prompted a location change to guarantee a level playing field for the riders. Initially planned to take place at the kicker line, the contest was moved to the infamous rail and box section up on the Dachstein. In 3 qualification runs, the riders had the chance to prove their skills either on a three-part rail line or a 3-part box line. Unfortunately, strong wind gusts, snowfall and dense fog rendered a safe final impossible, so the results of the qualification runs had to be used as decisive factor in the day’s ranking.

TIME TO SHINE…
The victory ceremony was held at the Dachstein valley station. And since every cloud has a silver lining, the sun was also giving a big comeback and both riders and spectators were rewarded with brightest sunshine. With relaxed beats, witty speeches as well as drinks and snacks sponsored by Blue Tomato, the O’Neill Roof Battle and the QParks Snowboard Tour 2012/13 enjoyed a positive grand finale.

In the snowboard men category, last year’s QParks Tour winner Florian Galler stepped on top of the day’s winner podium thanks to 3 great runs. With a Cab 270 on the kinked rail, he also snatched the “best trick” award. Showing a steady performance throughout the season, Fabian Wolfsgruber secured the overall QParks Tour victory among the men. In addition to a one-year sponsorship by adidas eyewear, Fabian could rejoice over a prize money of EUR 1.300,- in cash. S

In the ladies category, Daniela Kaindl snatched the prestigious overall victory crown and a Red Bull Mobile contract including a sweet smartphone. Newcomer of the year Simon Gschaider is now also proud owner of a new smartphone.
