Algeria Follows With "Very Great Concern" Latest Developments in Yemen

SHARM el SHEIKH (Egypt)- Algeria is following with "very great and deep concern" the latest developments in Yemen, and urged, once again, all Yemeni parties to show wisdom and promote dialogue, said Thursday Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra.

In an address at the meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Sharm ael Sheikh (Egypt) ahead of the Arab Summit, Lamamra underlined that Algeria "is following with very great and deep concern the recent serious developments in Yemen with the escalation of positions that could cause the political process to fail, increase divisions and violence and lead to the spread of terrorism, which would constitute a threat to the security, the stability and the unity of the brotherly Yemen."

"Algeria expresses full solidarity with the brotherly Yemeni people in this difficult and crucial period of its history and considers that the hardening of positions and the escalation of violence would not contribute to resolving the crisis, but on the contrary it would worsen the suffering of the brotherly people of Yemen," said Lamamra.

"Algeria emphasizes, once again, that the return to stability and security in Yemen would be possible only through the commitment to national dialogue, peace agreement and the initiative of the Arab Gulf countries," he added.

"Algeria urges, once more, all Yemeni parties to show wisdom and promote dialogue, which is the way to reach a consensual political solution and national reconciliation, preserve the unity, sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the country and strengthen the social cohesion of the Yemeni people," said the foreign minister.

Algeria also "urges all the stockholders to respect the will of the Yemeni people, the institutional legitimacy and the international law," concluded Lamamra.
