The short-staffed Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center is down another doctor after a medical board pulled Kelly Humpherys’ license for misleading board members about prior terminations and suspensions that resulted from concerns about her behavioral health.

VA Eastern Kansas Medical system spokesman Jim Gleisberg confirmed via email that Humpherys, who started work March 10, was no longer active at Colmery-O’Neil as of Nov. 8, the day after her license was revoked.

“When you seek to provide high quality, safe patient care you must evaluate the newly hired doctors,” Gleisberg said. “We are doing that.”

When asked if Humpherys was available to comment, Gleisberg said he believed she had left the state.

Colmery-O’Neil has for months been experiencing a physician shortage that has compromised the facility’s ability to provide in-patient care and perform some surgeries and caused administrators to divert patients to other hospitals.

  1. Walked into the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center today in Topeka KS to get checked out for a bad sinus infection that has had me down for four days and the ER Dr there confronted me while doing the check in process and asked what my problem was and I had just given all that information to the lady at the check in desk,I explain to Dr Hussein about a medication that I’d gotten from a local Dr that wasn’t working,That’s when he flip the switch,I had drove 60 miles to get a second opinion and all I got out of the deal was disrespected,He was hell bent on turning me around at the door denying me health care service,He accepted to see me knowing it was going to be pretty much the same as it was in the lobby which it was,This guy was no help at all, Disrespectful, arrogant and all about him,I ask to speak to someone above him and he replied he was the captain of the ship,I’m not from Topeka i am out in Kansas on a contract job,I didn’t deserve that type treatment from Dr Hussein,I felt my blood began to boil so I kindly walked out.I get back to my motel and had a call from Dr Hussein staff stating I left a bottle of cough syrup and a Dr note for work tonight,I told him I was going back to work on Monday,I already have a Dr note and didn’t need that cough syrup.I need nothing there never again,Dr Hussein is a real piece of work in that ER,Somebody have told him he’s the almighty gift to the VA. I Kinda got drugged through the mud seeking a second medical opinion from that VA hospital,That alone was a hard pill to swallow and will never leave my memory.
