Quentin Tarantino has left the world wondering how he would follow his masterful Inglourious Basterds. Would it be an adaptation of The Shadow? A medieval movie starring Helen Mirren? Tarantino said it wouldn’t be a prequel to Basterds or a sequel to Kill Bill. So what’s the genre-bending director up to? Italian actor Franco Nero (Django) may have spilled the beans to Movieplayer [via The Playlist]. Nero says:
“The film will be called The Angel, The Bad And The Wise and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot. We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino, Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”

Spurred by Nero’s interview, AICN‘s Mr. Beaks started calling up some sources and learned the following:
- Tarantino’s next film is a spaghetti western (that alone makes me ridiculously happy). Beaks wrote today that the project Nero was speaking of is completely different than Tarantino’s film.
- Deadline briefly spoke to Tarantino at a post-Oscar party on Sunday and confirmed he was writing a western. Deadline’s Mike Fleming believes that a draft of Tarantino’s western (not of the spaghetti variety) will be turned into The Weinstein Company in about two months.
- The plan is to shoot in Italy and Spain later this year.
- Christoph Waltz is “one of the stars.”
- The Angel, The Bad, and The Wise” isn’t even close to the title.
- This is the first Beaks has heard of Nero, Carradine, and Williams’ involvement, but he’s inclined to believe that they’re in the film.
Beaks says he’s still doing some digging and will update his story accordingly and we’ll be sure to do so as well. This is incredibly exciting news and if Tarantino does get his spaghetti western to go in front of cameras this year, it could mean new Tarantino in theaters by 2012. And maybe Tarantino will finally get his chance to work with Ennio Morricone…
