Odisha: Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Samman for 2014 announced
Report by Ashok Palit, Bhubaneswar: Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Samman  for 2014 has been announced on Friday.  This was announced by the Srjan director Guru Ratikant Mohapatra.

He said the awards would be conferred on Guru Sudhakar Sahoo (dance), Niranjan Satpathy (theatre), Pandit Umesh Chandra Kar (music) and Prashant Nanda (cinema). Each recipient would receive a cash prize of Rs50,000.

 The annual 20th Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, 2014 Award festival will be held at the Rabindra Mandap here from September 5 to 9. On the concluding day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is slated to present the awards to four eminent artists in the fields of dance, theatre, music and cinema.

On September 5, Ramil Ibrahim of Malaysia would perform Odishi and Sasank Subramanium  of Chennai would give a performance in Carnatic flute.  On September 6, Vaibhav Airekar of Mumbai and internationally-reputed drummer Anandan Sivamani would present their performances.                                                          On September 7,  Mumbai-based Daksha Mashruwala would perform  Saggy Baggy (group presentation of Odishi). On September 8, Prashant Shah (USA) would perform Kathak and Neeladri Kumar would perform with the sitar.

On September 9, Synthesis (abstract fusion) and Kubjaa, a mythological theme, would be performed, he said.

The Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Samman has been instituted in the year 1995 by Sri Ratikant Mohapatra, [son and disciple of Guru Mohapatra and the Director of Srjan] to confer recognition on an individual for his contribution in extensive areas in the performing arts. For the last 19 years the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Samman has been presented to four persons in the field of Dance, Music, Cinema and Theatre.
