DONCASTER Rovers will be reunited with Coventry City in League One after goals from James Hayter and Simon Gillett condemned the Sky Blues to the drop.

Substitute Hayter won an 81st minute penalty and then coolly sent Joe Murphy the wrong way to break the deadlock.

Simon Gillett picked up possession on the edge of the area and drilled home a fine left footed shot in the last minute to the delight of the 600 travelling Doncaster fans.

The emotions were a stark contrast in the home end as Coventry were relegated to the third tier of English football for the first time in 48 years.

But for Rovers there were smiles at the final whistle after a hard-working display saw them claim their first win since victory at Nottingham Forest - 12 games ago.

Clear cut chances were few and far between on an afternoon that mattered more to the hosts.

Gary McSheffrey wasted the best of them for City when he fired over from close range with only Gary Woods to beat.

Rovers concentrated more on containing - with Sam Hird again deployed just in front of the back four and James Husband making his first full start at left back.

They contributed to another gutsy defensive display and as Coventry lost heart as the game wore on, the visitors took full advantage with Hayter and Gillett earning Rovers a rare victory.
