SentryWorld to close in 2013 for renovations
SentryWorld Golf Course in Stevens Point, which was among the first upscale public / destination courses in Wisconsin when it opened in 1982, will be closed for the entire 2013 season while it is undergoing renovations and improvements.
The course is expected to reopen in June, 2014.
Sentry Insurance announced its plans for the course in a press release Wednesday.
“We are excited to announce our plans for upgrading and enhancing SentryWorld Golf Course,” said Pete McPartland, Sentry Insurance president and chief executive officer. “We believe the changes will provide an even better experience for golfers. And we are fortunate to again be working with the original course designer, the iconic Robert Trent Jones Jr., and his associates.”
Jones will collaborate with architects Bruce Charlton and Jay Blasi on the project.
Rick Wittmann, Sentry’s vice president – marketing, said the intent was to maintain the integrity of the course but to introduce a number of improvements and changes to several holes.
SentryWorld currently is a par-72, 6,951-yard course. Dominating the landscape are 35 acres of spring-fed lakes, native birch, green pines and five acres of flowerbeds. The course is best known for the 173-yard, par-3 16th hole, the famous “Flower Hole."
