With their new film SPRING hitting select theatres this weekend (as well as VOD and digital platforms for everyone else), I had the chance to talk with directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead about their latest release from Drafthouse Films. As expected, the directing duo have put together another unusual and unique film that’s rather tough to narrow down or categorize for those of you who like your movies to come in nice, neat packages. Genre-bending is what a lot of people like to call it, but I prefer to just say that they use a variety of different elements – horror, romance, comedy – as ingredients for a distinct cinema gumbo that you can’t quite put your finger on where the flavor is coming from, but you know is delicious nonetheless.

Over the course of our conversation on this episode of Real Interviews For Real, we’ll get into some of the themes of SPRING – rebirth, regret, love, making every moment count, etc. – while going through a bit of their process in crafting a story like this. We’ll talk about the benefits of having final cut, the choices a director must make between art and career, their personal messages with this film and plenty more. It’s an educational and interesting chat, and I hope you enjoy it.

Be sure to check HERE to see if SPRING is playing anywhere near you, and to bone up on your Shitty Carl research, here you go.
