Celebrate national poetry month and celebrate Arab-American culture
The Silicon Valley Middle East Studies Consortium presents an evening with Deema K. Shehabi and Zaid Shlah at the Silicon Valley Arab American Cultural Center (3952 Twilight Drive, San Jose, California) on Thursday, April 28. 2011 at 7:30 PM.
Free and open to the public.
Deema K. Shehabi is a writer, editor, and poet. She grew up in the Arab world and attended college in the US, where she received an MA in journalism. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in several anthologies and literary journals including the Atlanta Review, The Poetry of Arab Women, Crab Orchard, DMQ Review, Flyway, The Mississippi Review, and Valparaiso Poetry Review. She is the Vice-President for RAWI (the Radius of Arab-American Writers Inc). She currently resides in Northern California with her husband and two sons.
A native Calgarian, Zaid Shlah now resides in Walnut Creek, CA with his wife Randa. He obtained his MA in English from San Francisco State University. His poetry has appeared in literary magazines and journals in both Canada and the United States. Most recently he was awarded the American Academy of Poets Award. Zaid teaches in Walnut Creek, and lectures at New College of California.
