Showbiz Highlights of 2011

The year 2011 with all its negatives and positives has gone while leaving behind many good and bad memories. As regard to film industry this year also passed with another struggling for its revival with no worth mentioning achievements. Although film industry was accepted and declared as industry and many big promises, during the year 2011, total Eighteen Pakistani films were released which includes six Urdu, seven Punjabi, two Siraiki and three Pashto films. On the other hand thirty Indian films were released with no outstanding business. Bol and Bhai Log hit the box office as super hit whereas Sala Sohra Te Jawai and Thakar 420 were the super films of the year. Other than Pakistani, 30 Indian films were also released.

The year 2011 also left film gores very gloomy with the demises of many renowned personalities specially the film and stage comedians as mentioned under obituaries.

Neelo Begum – Knee Surgery

NeeloFormer film actress and mother of actor Shan, Neelo Begum had undergone a knee surgery in Lahore. After initial recovery she was shifted from hospital to her house. A. Nayyar

After the sad demise of his son Haroon Nayyar known as Tipu, former singer A. Nayyar has stopped attending any of showbiz activity. Untimely death of his son made him fanatically upset and thwarted. Haroon Nayyar was 28 years old who died on 16 December 2011 and was buried at Christian Graveyard, Jail Road Lahore. Haroon was a drummer and singer and used to perform with local underground bands. He died on Thursday at his Canal Park, Gulberg residence after suffering from a protected illness. He remained hospitalized for a couple of months and was now recovering. pap prays for the departed soul and A. Nayyar to bear this irreparable loss.

Shamim Ara

Former director and actress Shamim Ara is in critical state of her health as she is in coma for last two years in a health care centre, London. She got brain hamrage (paralyzed) on November 19, 2010. After surgery she was not fully recovered so her son Salman took her to London where she is still in coma. Sometime she only blink her eyes but according to her son her brain is damaged and only some miracle can remove here coma. Slaman and his wife are looking after but she is under clouds. There are reports that her ex-husband is also taking care of Shamim Ara. May God bless her.

Film Festival and Cultural exhibition at Al-hamra, Lahore

Four days film festival and cultural exhibition is being organized at Alhamra Lahore by the Alhamra Arts Council. Films and cultural aspects of four countries like Pakistan, China, Turkey and Iran are being exhibited in in the film festival. The inauguration of the film festival was started with Iranian Oscar winning film Rang-Khuda. As regard to Pakistan, Punjabi film Heer Ranjha was screened during the festival, the hero of the film Ejaz Durrani was invited as chief guest of the ceremony. During the show the chairman of Pakistan film producer association Syed Noor, Qaiser Sanaullah of Cinema Management Association, Fayaz Khan choudhry Ejaz Kamran, Jarar Rizvi, Malik Joni and a large number of spectators attended the film show of Heer Ranjha.

Eid ul Azha2012 – Ten films, including two Punjabi, three Pashto, two Eglish and three Indian films are being released 

Two Punjabi, three Pashto, two English and three Indian films are being released on this eid ul Azha. There were other films ready to be released but due to non-confirmation of cinemas these are not being released. In Indian films, Chakaview, Partners (Old) and Rush whereas like previous years number of Pashto films is maximum which includes Muzaffar Khan and Arbaz Khan’s Dushmani, Sheikh Akram and Nadir Khan’s My Name is Khan and Charsi of Arshad Khan. Reasonable Publicity of these Pashto films has been done in a way that it is anticipated that these films would do a good business. Iqbal Kashmiri’s Sher Dil is the only Punjabi film which is being released on this eid ul Azha. With this while keeping in view repute of the director Iqbal Kashmiri it is expected that it will do a good business. At the same time Haseeno Ka Mela (Old) was also released on this eid, this film was already released in 2010 on eve of Eid ul Fitr. With this Jisam 3 and Ghunda Act with additionally edited songs are also being released and no doubt these types of treated films have taken audience very away from cinemas.

Ban imposed on release of Indian Films on PAF cinemas-October 2012

Pakistan Air Force has imposed ban on release of Indian films in PAF Cinemas. On the other hand cinema contractor has submitted application against this decision with the plea that since Pakistani films are not being produced regularly so cinema business would be badly affected with this ban. It is worth mentioning that previously there were forty (40) PAF cinemas in Pakistan but with the fall of cinema business in Pakistan there are only four PAF cinemas, presently working and these are PAF Cinema Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Sargodha (Shaheen). Being located in posh areas only Hollywood and Bollywood films are being released on these cinemas. PAF authorities have passed the instructions to all base commanders to implement this ban forthwith. In reaction to this order, Cinema contractors have closed and stopped releasing of any of the films.

Taj Cinema – Tando Muhammad Khan

Taj cinema of Tandu Muhammad Khan was closed five years ago and after renovation and uplift of interior, seating etc it was opened on this Eid ul Fitr with Indian film Rawari Rathor which did a wonderful business. Film lovers had declared it a good step for revival of cinema.

PNCA – Revival of Pakistani Cinema

Pakistan National Council of The Arts has boosted their efforts for the revival of Pakistani Cinema. In this regard PNCA has started arranging film screening in the auditorium of the council. Syed Noor’s Majajan was the first film which was projected, on this occasion the director of the film, Syed Noor along with Saima were also present there. During his address, Syed Noor emphasized the importance of Pakistani films and asked the government officials for serious efforts for cinema revival. Syed Noor also announced that an academy for film production is being inaugurated for the young film makers interested in films. The Director General of PNCA, Tougir Nasir also addressed the gathering on this occasion.

 Youtube is blocked in Pakistan

To stop the viewership of obnoxious and objectionable film in Pakistan, due to absence internet filtration system in the country to block a website, Youtube’s complete website has been blocked on the orders of Prime Minister. Pakistan Telecom Authority had suggested Prime Minister and Supreme Court to filter the website. Since India and Indonesia have the agreement with Google so the website has already been filtered. It is further added that on the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, 934 other sites carrying the same obnoxious material pertaining to Prophet (Peace be upon him) have been blocked and responsible authorities have been further ordered to open their wits to stop such websites along with sites having porno graphical material.

Films being released on Eid ul Fitr – 2012

On this Eid ul Fitr three Punjabi, five Pashto and three English films are being released but still there is doubt about release of these films as some films have lost their confirmed cinemas because of the Indian films, one of them is Salman Khan’s film Aik Tha Tiger whom release is yet not confirmed but our producers and distributor don’t want to take any risk. On the other hand leading cinema houses are offering their maximum bit for Aik Tha Tiger. As regard to other Indian film which was likely to be released was Jism 2, and many leading cinemas of different cities illegally managed film prints for its release on Eid but their efforts went on vain as this film is legally being released on this Eid ul Fitr. Fire eruption in Koh e Noor TV Chanel – June 30, 2012

During a recording of Sehri transmission, fire which was erupted as result of short circuit in the building of Koh e Nor TV Chanel at 3:48 am on July 30, 2012 killed producer, four Naat Khawans including renowned film director Rasheed Dogar. Whereas, fire also injured eleven other studios crew members and technicians as well. It was reported that Mehfil Naat was on at Sehri Transmission in Koh e Noor TV Channel located at Garhi Shaho, Lahore and due to load shedding recording was in progress on generator backup. Suddenly generator produced some short circuit which ignited the studios set and abruptly the furniture and other set caught fire and filled with smoke that created fuss and that resulted in death toll of precious lives.

Shehanshah e Ghazal Mehdi Hassan died – June 13, 2012

After a prolonged illness, at last the Ghazal chapter was closed when legendry Shehanshah e Ghazal Mehdi Hassan Khan died at 12:15pm on June 13, 2012 at Agha Khan Hospital Karachi. He was suffering from pulmonary disorder and paralysis for last few years. On June 13, at 09:30 am his condition got alarming so immediately he was evacuated to Agha Khan Hospital but his health state was deteriorated with passage of each minute, finally he expired after three hours. He was born on July 18, 1927 at Jhanjhoro, District Jaypur, Rajhistan (India) in Kalawant a musician family. He started his singing performance at the age of eight and took basic music education from his father Azim Khan and maternal uncle Ismail Khan. At the time of independence, he shifted to Pakistan. At the age of 20, he started his Ghazal Career from Radio with “Gulon mein rang bharey, bad e nobahar chaley” and playback singing for films from Shikar (1956). Then in 60s and 70s mostly he gave playback singing for almost all top actors of Pakistan film industry. During his singing career he gave playback singing for 325 films. He is recipient of Pride of Performance, Tamgha e Imtiaz and Hilal e Imtiaz, in India he was awarded Sehgal Award (1979) and Gorkha Dikshan Bahu Award in Nepal (1980) and nine Nigar Awards. In 1988, first time he developed some health problem and in 1999 he quit singing due to his ailment. Later on he was paralyzed and finally died on June 13, 2012 at the age of 85 years, his funeral prayer was offered on June 15, 2012 on arrival of his sons from USA and buried in Shah Muhammad Graveyard, Karachi. He left nine sons and six daughters.

Bol won the Best Film Award – 14th Asian Film Festival – 2012

Indian actor and festival Patron Abhishek Bachan attended the Opening Night of the 14th London Asian Film Festival hosted by Tongues on Fire at the prestigious British Film Institute. This year in the festival, an interesting Pakistani film Bol was also included which was screened on 18 March, again at British Film Institution. In the festival, Shoaib Mansoor’s Pakistani film Bol has achieved the best film award and gorgeous Pakistani television actress and model Humaima Malik heroine of film Bol got best actress award at 14th Asian Film Festival and is confirmed to attend the Q & A session.

Shabnam and Robin Ghosh will visit Pakistan on April 26, 2012

Former film actress Shabnam and her husband veteran composer and music director Robin Ghosh who were shifted to Bangladesh will visit Pakistan on April 26, and Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Yusuf Raja Gilani is scheduled to hand over the award to the legendary artistes. The event was scheduled in last year which was to be held at Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on November 23, 2012 and award giving ceremony was to be aired on different stations of PTV on November 25 but due to some reasons it was not held, previously now scheduled again on April 26, 2012. On reaction to this award giving ceremony Robin Ghosh said, “The award is the result of my devotion to my work. I successfully composed and directed some legendary songs of Pakistani movies and that’s why I am getting the award. It’s really a great recognition of my work.” During her four days tour Shabnam will arrive at Karachi and on April 26 will fly to Islamabad for Ptv a special programme and afterward she would arrive at Lahore where she’ll meet her old mates, colleagues and family friends.

IMAX Theater System – in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi

IMAX Corporation have announced an agreement with Cine Star Cinema Pakistan on March 15, 2012 under which IMAX will install three digital IMAX® theatre systems into new construction projects in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi. The project will start in 2013. This is going to be IMAX’s first commercial theatres to open in Pakistan and brings the total number of 303 IMAX® theatres to be opened or contracted in the Asia Pacific region.

Sitara-e-Imtiaz for actor Muhammad Qavi Khan 

Renowned actor Muhammad Qavi Khan has been included in one of those legends who earned Sitara -e- Imtiaz in the field of performing arts. President Asif Ali Zardari on March 18, 2012, approved the conferment of Sitara-e-Imtiaz upon renowned actor Muhammad Qavi Khan in recognition of his services in the field of performing arts. Qavi was born at Peshawar and started his career from Radio Pakistan in 1952. Subsequently when Pakistan Television started in 1964, he was picked by the TV pioneers and selected as first hero of the Ptv drama. He had also been conferred with best actor and lifetime achievement awards by PTV. Besides radio and TV, Qavi Khan is also amongst, the pioneers of theatre in Pakistan. He had also made significant contributions in the development of theatre and had served in Punjab Arts Council and in the governing body of Pakistan National Council of Arts. As regard to films, there is a long list of films in which he performed as an actor, moreover he produced a number of films like Mr. Budho, Manji Kethey Dahwan, Be-eman, Sajan Rang Rangeela etc. as producer.

Hilal-e-Imtiaz for Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has advised the President to confer the Award of “Hilal-e-Imtiaz” upon Ms. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, in cognition of her achievements in the field of film making and her contribution to highlighting important social issues in Pakistan through her documentaries, for which she was recently awarded the Oscar.President Asif Ali Zardari, on Tuesday, approved conferment of ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’ upon Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the first Pakistani to win an Oscar award for her documentary ‘Saving Face’. The documentary ‘Saving Face’ chronicles the lives of acid attack survivors, their arduous attempts to bring their assailants to justice, and follows a British-Pakistani plastic surgeon, Dr Jawad, who performs reconstructive surgeries on them. Sharmeen Chinoy has produced numerous films and has won a number of awards, including the Emmy Award and the Livingston Award. In recognition of her achievements and her contribution to highlighting important social issues in Pakistan, the award of ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’ was being conferred upon her.

Shan! Got injured during action shoot for “Achha Gujjar“.

Superstar Shan got injured while shooting an action sequence under the direction of Masood Butt for Punjabi film Acha Gujjar in Iqbal Town, Lahore. Shan was immediately evacuated to Razaq Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, where after clinical treatment for back injury, he was discharged with three week’s rest advice by the doctors. Director, Masood Butt informed that Shan was shooting an action sequence in which the villain (Shafqat Cheema) kidnaps the heroine (Saima and Dua Qureshi) and Shan was to counter it. According to the scene, Saima and Dua run towards Shan and at this point a police car is supposed to arrive. But the driver missed the mark where he was to stop, resultantly vehicle hit the star. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy – FIRST Oscar for Pakistan

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy a Pakistani journalist and documentarian have won an Oscar for her documentary film Saving Face. She is the first Pakistani to win the prestigious award in the 84 years history of Academy Awards. Prior to this honor Sharmeen was already awarded with an Emmy for her documentary, Pakistan: Children of the Taliban in 2010. She is also the first non-American to win the Livingston Award for Young Journalists. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday announced a high civil award for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on this achievement of winning Oscar Award for her documentary film. Oscar nomination in the “Documentary, short film” category, announced by the Academy awards for the year 2012, Saving Face a Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ’s documentary was nominated and during the prestigious cceremony held on 26 February 2012 she won the Oscar for her nomination. This award enabled Sharmeen, the first Pakistani filmmaker to earn an Oscar. Sharmeen is director of Documentary films and she was awarded Emmy award in 2010 for her documentary Pakistan: Children of the Taliban. Saving face, which the Karachi-based filmmaker has co-directed with Daniel Junge, depicts the life of a British Pakistani plastic surgeon who donates his time to heal acid victims in Pakistan. Humsafar – the most successful TV Drama after Waris

The most successful TV serial which attracted the global attention after a very long time is being telecasted by Hum TV Chanel. Humsafar is based on the novel Humsafar written by Farhat Ishtiaq. It has a triangular story which revolves around the trials and tribulations of a married couple, Ashar Hussain (Fawad Afzal Khan) and Khirad Ihsan (Mahira Khan), and the jealous forces that work to break them apart mainly leading by Sara (Noreen Waqar). The plot of novel’s story is projected in retrospective manner and was mainly narrated in flashbacks. The theme song of the drama sung by Qurat ul Ain Baloch is another major attraction of the serial. 32 Annual Bolan Award – Lahore

32nd Bolan academy awards ceremony was held 20 January 2012 at PC Hotel Lahore by Khaliq Ahmed the chairman of Bolan cultural society Pakistan. The ceremony was graced by Chairman Auqaf (Minority) Syed Asif Hashmi, MPA Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, AK Ministor Sardar Javed Ayub, Faisal Rathor, GM PC Hotel Arshad Anjum. Artists must stop begging their rights – Qavi

Cultural Seminar by Pakistan National Council of Arts Islamabad was held at Lahore. The main purpose of the seminar was to discuss different issues pertaining to film and cultural aspects and to formulate their suggestions. During the discussion different cultural celebrities addressed and pointed out prominent hurdles in the welfare of artist’s community and gave their remedial measures and suggestions. Most prominent speaker were Muhammad Qavi Khan, Mustafa Qureshi ,Hamid Ali Khan, Aqeel Ruby and Touqeer Nasir. Qavi emphasized that we must now forget to ask for the basic rights of artists from the Government as in the past government official though listed our problems but did just nothing. He requested and as a protest that Artist must stop begging their rights from Government, get united and minimize criticizing each other and create a brotherly and soothing atmosphere within artists community. Mehdi Hassan admitted in hospital – January 13, 2012

Legend singer Mehdi Hassan was immediately evacuated to hospital last night when he complaint in his breathing. After first aid, Mehdi Hassan was shifted to ICU where all out efforts are being made to control his health situation. According to hospital administration his condition is still critical. Sultan Rahi, 16th Death Anniversary – January 9, 2012

Renowned legendary superstar of Pakistani film industry Sultan Rahi’s 16th death anniversary was observed on 9th January. Rahi was assassinated by some unknown murderers on the same day, in 1996 at GT road once he was on his way to Islamabad. His murder case is still unsolved which was once again demanded by his fan to be resolved. At the time of death Rahi was 58 who was born in Saharanpur (India) in 1938. He started his film career as an extra from film Baghi. He struggled for a few years in the early 1960s, playing only a few supporting roles. Inauguration of Ishq Khuda – January 9, 2012

Year 2012 started with inauguration ceremony of Shahzad Rafiq’s Punjabi film Ishq Khuda , the film based on Sufism was announced in beautiful function which was attended by renowned personalities of Pakistan filmdom like Syed Noor, Bahar Begum, Auriya Maqbool Jan, Ayaz Mir, Asghar Nadeem Syed, Amjad Islam Amjad, Tufail Akhtar, Yasin Malik, Safdar Malik, Riaz ur Rehman Saghir, Arshad Waraich, Pervez Kaleem. Iqbal Kashmir’s Sher Dil
Renowned film director Iqbal Kashmiri had inaugurated his recent Punjabi film Sher Dil, although it is almost one month that its shooting has started, a few days back the producer of the film Haji Abdul Rasheed (Haji Shera) threw an introductory party to the print /electronic media at Bari Studios, Lahore. A large no of journalists and TV channels reps attended the party along with almost complete cast of the film including veteran actress Sabira Sultana who is playing the important role of the mother of Shan in Sher Dil. Sabira said that she is not that fluent in Punjabi but at the same time she was unable to refuse the offer of Iqbal Kashmiri for this role. Producer Zafar Butt, cameraman Waqar Bukhari, Ch. Ijaz Kamran, Anwar Khan, Tariq Sahli, Aslam Daar, Zahid Iqbal were in the gusts including Shan, Zeeshan Sikandar, Shafqat Cheema, and Iftkhar Thankar who are playing the main lead role in Sher Dil.

Shareeka

Syed Noor will make another multicast and heavy budget Punjabi film Shareeka, he announced this film during a press conference on the eve of his 61st birthday which was celebration in Metropole cinema. Shareeka is going to his 56th film as director. In the presence of film producer Safdar Malik and Begum Akhtar the owner of Metropole cinema, Noor said that Shan and Saima would be the lead artists amongst fifty others artists. Ik Si Sher
For the first time in Pakistan, a film is being produced on the life of any film actor, renowned director Syed Noor has taken over the mission to make a film on the life of Gunnies Book of Record holder and Super Star of Pakistan film industry Sultan Rahi. Former actor of seventies, Zahid Khan died on 20 December 2011. He was diabetic and suffered a severe paralysis attack. He started his film career in 1964 and appeared in almost seventy films spanning over 20 years. His famous films includes Ansoo, Mera Pyaar Meri Dosti and Anhoni. His performance in Ansoo with Firdos and Shahid was well acknowledged.

Tariq Shah (9 December 2011)
Renowned Pashto, Urdu and Punjabi film actor Tariq Shah died on 9 December 2011. Tariq Shah was born in 1952 in District Mardan of Pakhtonkhawa. He was son of Syed Abdul Kahliq from a famous political family. He started his film career as hero with Aasia in film April Fool which was released in 1977. Afterward he moved to Punjabi films as villain and hero in Pashto films. Previously he was suffering with hepatitis and few weeks back he was advised for liver transplantation by the medical authorites. For huge expenditure to undergo this operation, his son Babrak Shah had requested Government sector for financial assistance but his demise didn’t allow him for this expensive medical operation. Mustafa Qureshi, Ghulam Mohiudin, Sangeeta, Rambo and many other personalities from film industry participated his funeral prayer.

Renowned film lyricist, writer and director Fayyaz Hashmi died on November 29, 2011 after a prolonged illness. Syed Muhammad Fayyaz Hashmi born in 1926, he was son of Syed Muhammad Hussain Hashmi Dilgeer. Hashmi was very famous poet and film lyricist both in India and Pakistan. In Pakistan Dopatta was his first film where as Deewaney Terey Piyar Ke was the last film as film lyricist. During his career he wrote four hundred and ninety songs for one hundred and twenty films. He was buried in Sakhi Hassan graveyard, Karachi.

Renowned TV play writer, director, artist Rauf Khalid died in a road accident on 24 November 2011. He was on his way from Lahore to Rawalpindi via Motoway, near Sheikhupura, the tyre of his car got burst and it crashed into roadside fence, resultantly Rauf sustained critical injuries and died. Rauf Khalid was son in law of late provincial minister Syed Zafar Ali Shah and brother-in-law of Provincial Minister for Health Syed Zahir Shah. Late Rauf was recipient of the Pride of Performance Award, he was the founding president and chancellor of the National Institute of Culture Studies, Lok Virsa, in Islamabad. A former bureaucrat, Rauf Khalid was known for plays that highlighted the plight of the Kashmiri people. He also worked as an actor in TV and film. Besides, Rauf Khalid was a painter, lyricist, speaker and educationist. His paintings have been exhibited in the World Fine Art Gallery at New York and the Omma Art Gallery in Crete Greece. In 1989, he wrote and partially directed PTV’s thriller, Maddar, a seven-episode serial, exposing drug trafficking, from PTV Quetta centre. In 1991, he wrote Guest House, a 52-episode comedy series that turned out to be a popular comedy series for PTV. In 1995, Rauf Khalid directed, produced and acted in drama serial “Angaar Wadi’. In 1998 he directed, produced and acted another 27-episode drama serial ‘Laag’. In 2003, Rauf Khalid released his debut film Laaj, as (writer, director, producer and actor). The film Laaj won 12 Bolan Awards, 14 Graduate Awards, 4 National Film Awards and Luxstyle Award. In 2008, Rauf Khalid also produced his third television serial ‘Mishaal’ as writer and director. He is survived by a wife two sons and a daughter.

Senior most cameraman of Pakistan Film Industry and renowned Film Director / Producer Riaz Bukhari died on 19 October 2011. He was born in 1934. He was husband of renowned legend singer Zubaida Khanum and father of film director Faisal Bukhari. He started his film career as cameraman as assistant cameraman with his brother Syed Jaffar Bukhari and then became producer and director. Pashto film’s renowned director Naseem Khan died on September 25th 2011 after a heart attack. He was 52 years old. He went to Peshawar to offer funeral prayer of his nephew who died in a bomb blast in Peshawar, on his way back he was evacuated after a heart attack but died after preliminary tests. 70s film actor Nazim died in a private hospital at Karachi on 21 June 2011. He was sick for quit sometime and was admitted in hospital on complaint of cardiac arrest which was further aggravated in last week. His funeral was held after Zuhar prayer at Block 1, Gulshan e Iqbal Karachi. Jameel Fakhri (1946-2011)

Renowned film and TV actor Jameel Fakhri passed away on 9 June 2011, he was 65 years old. He was admitted into the Mayo Hospital on May 31, and placed on ventilator for a few days. He also suffered a stroke which resulted in paralysis. Factually the death his young son Ali Ayaz Fakhri in USA a few months back took a heavy toll on his health.
Jamil Fakhri was born in Lahore in 1946, on completion of graduation he joined the National Bank of Pakistan. He entered into theater at WAPDA Auditorium and Alhamra Lahore with Kemal Ahmed Rizvi, Athar Shah Khan , Ali Ejaz and Nanha. His famous stage plays includes Andar Ana Mana Hai, Zuban Daraz and Lahore Bypass.
He was considered among the founding artists of Ptv Lahore, TV producer Yawar Hayat introduced him on TV. His popular plays on TV are Tanay Banay, Daldal, Waris, Andhera Ujhala, Bandhan, Ek Mohabbat Sau Afsanay. His role of police inspector Jaffar Husain in Ptv’s play Andhera Ujala became so popular that film director Shabab Keranvi chosed him for big screen. Fakhri acted in more than 50 films in which Muskarahat and Deewany Do, Ye Zamana Aur Hai are the among his best flicks.
His last play Dil Day Boohay was telecasted on Ptv on May 22, 2011. On May 31, the day he suffered a stroke, his play Sehra Teri Pyas went on air at a private channel.
His namaz e Janaza was held at Qila Luxman Singh and buried at Ilam Din Shaheed compound Miani Sahib Graveyard Lahore.

Khayyam Sarhadi started his career from theatre and later joined Pakistan Radio but he got fame from number of TV plays like Man Chale Ka Sauda, Sooraj Key Saath Saath and Deep Se Deep Jale. Rizwan Wasti – (1937-2011)
TV and film actor and Syed Rizwan Wasti, 74, passed away on Monday 24 January 2011 after suffering a brain hemorrhage. During this period he debut his acting career as Judge in a Ptv famous drama Shama. Then he performed different roles in more than two hundred plays including Afshan, Shaheen, Khuda ki Basti and Tabeer. He also worked in a movie named “Insaf our Qanoon” with Mohammad Ali and Zeba. Shiraz Bukhari ( Jan 2011)
Supporting actor of eighties Shiraz Bukhari also known as Shahid Bukhari died of heart attack at Karachi on January 21st, 2011. He got worth mentioning boost in Film Ye Zamana Aur Hai. Quran khawani was held today at his residence at Defense AA-Block. Shiraz Bukhari married twice and had seven children, today’s actress Noor is one them.

Some of their film work proved to be a master piece but what so ever their business status was; one factor is established that it is now part of our cultural history. Unfortunately, mostly their work being destroyed just because of the mentioned reasons while negating its importance. Thus there is dire need to do some arrangements to preserve it with the same zeal and enthusiasm what rest of the world is doing.
