Some of very interesting facts and factual realities of Pakistan Film world have been consolidated here on FIRST page which includes statistical facts of films and artists of Pak filmdom. The purpose of this page is just like the mpaopS‘s motive plus revive and cherish the good old memories of Pakistani Cinema for film lovers specifically the students interested in Pak films in its historical perspective.

The First aspect cover the first step of that category like first feature film, first Urdu, Punjabi or regional film, in technical firsts first color, cinemascope, then first aspect regarding artists and how this page will proceed. so to start with…..

First Film with……

First – Silent Film

Daughters of Today

A. R. KardarAbdul Rasheed Kardar and M. Ismail, started their first publicity group and named it ARME Artists (AR for Abdul Rasheed and ME for Muhammad Esmail). They arranged a movie camera from Shankar Das photographer’s shop situated at Mall Lahore and made their first experimental movie in which Master Ghulam Qadir (Hero), M. Ismail (villain) and A. R. Kardar as side hero, performed as artists where as son of Shankar Das was the photographer. This first effort was encouraged by the people so both friends went to Bombay to gain more expertise in film making. After his arrival A. R. Kardar started the shooting of Daughters of Today in 1924 and finally after threee year years it  was released in 1927.

First – Talkie Film

A.R. Kardar while incorporating Hakim Ram Parshad established a production house named Play Art Phototone and inaugurated one floor film studio at MacLeod road behind Regent cinema with the name of Play Art Phototone Studios. In 1932, under the banner of this production house A.R. Kardar produced and directed the first Lahore based talkie film Heer Ranjha in which Anwar Begum from Amritsar played the role of Heer and Rafiq Ghaznave as Ranjha while M. Ismail played as Kedo. In Lahore,  Heer Ranjha was released in Capital and Aziz Theater.

First – Pashto Film

yousufkhan-sherbanoAfter the success of films produced in regional languages like Punjabi and Sindhi, film makers started to explore the film avenues in other languages like Pashto and Gujrati so in 1968, Chhata Khan, Rab Nawaz Khan, Syed Amir Sarhadi and Gulzar started Pakistan’s first Pashto film Yak Yousaf O Sher Bano which was inaugurated by actor Rangeela in Evernew Studios Lahore. The film started under the direction of Jamil Ahmed Khan with Rab Nawaz Khan as hero and Ghazala as heroine whereas Aman acted as villain. Sound recordist A.Z. Baig was the sound recordist of the film who recorded six songs in one day for the film. When this film was under production, at the same time Film producer Nazir Hussain, Madad Ali Madan and Haider Ali Joshi also started Pashto film Yousaf Khan Sher Bano under the direction of Aziz Tabussam who selected Badar Munir a camera trolley operator of film director Pervez Malik as film hero and Yasmeen Khan, the heroine of the film. Resultantly it created a dispute/ media war in between both the producers, finally matter reached at civil court. In 1969 the case was under media trial when Ahbab Pictures located at Nazar Bagh Peshawqar, announced production another Pashto film Gul Bano but once the case of two above mentioned films reached at court, Ahbab Pictures stopped their project. On the other hand Court gave the final decision in favour of Karachi producer, consequently, production of Yak Yousaf O Sher Bano was stopped and  Yousaf Khan Sher Bano was completed and released as Pakistan’s first Pashto film on December 1st,1970. Although Aziz Tabussam was the director of the film as shown in the film titles but it is said the he was basically hired as pakhton translator where as the film was actually directed by Nazir Hussain the producer of film.

First – Woman film Director

Madam Noor Jahan

Noor jahan filmography 1Noor Jahan was the first film director of Pakistan who directed Chan Way, although Noor Jahan was reflected as its director but on ground it was Shoukat Hussain Rizvi, the husband of Noor Jahan who directed the major portion of the film. Anyhow Chan Way was released on March 24, 1951 and it became the Super hit film of the year specially due to his music . It was released in Regent cinema Lahore where it completed eighteen weeks.

First – Underwater Filmed Film

Sohni

After the Super hit success of Sassi, Eveready pictures made Sohni with more zeal and enthusiasm, for the first time under water shooting was carried out. Initially Munshi Dil gave the direction of Sohni but he left it because of dispute in between film producers so it was completed under the direction of M.J.Rana. In spite of being the most expensive movie of its time it proved a dead flop movie of the year 1955.

First – Cinemascope Cinema

Rex Cinema

Rex Cinema Karachi was the first cinema of Pakistan which uplifted its projection system and equipped it with Cinemascope and Stereophonic sound system.

First – 70mm  Cinema

Ravioli cinema

First up-gradation of projection system from 35mm to 70mm was done in Ravioli cinema at Karachi with 70mm Todd / AO.

First – Air-conditioned Cinema

Gulistan cinema

Gulistan cinema of Dhaka, East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) was the first cinema which was equipped with air conditioned system in 1953.

First – Film Studios

Shahnoor Film Studios

Madam Noor Jahan and her husband Syed Shoukat Hussain Rizvi migrated from Bambay to Karachi and then they shifted to Karachi and tried their all-out efforts to allot some residence and filmdom place. Finally they succeeded and got allotment of Shesh Mahal located at Davis Road Lahore as residence and Shori Studios which was burnt during partition era. After renaming the studios to Shahnoor Film Studios, and day-night efforts they were able to made it as one of the best film studios of Lahore at that time. Syed Shoukat Hussain Rizvi who inaugurated Shahnoor Stodio in 1948, started five movies with five different film units. Shoukat ‘s first film was Nagina, Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj wrote the story and songs and Feroz Nizami gave the music, in cast other than Noor Jahan it was Majeed, Shah Nawaz, Ghulam Muhammad and Hamaliya Wala.

Debut Film: Sheela / Pind Di Kuri

Debut Song: Lang aa Ja Pattan chana da yaar in 1935 for film Sheela /Pind Di Kuri

Zeenat was the first film in which Noor Jahan played young to old role and ladies qawali was introduced otherwise previously there was no precedence of picturising a lady qawali in films. Seth Sheraz Ali Hakeem produced this film which was directed by Syed Shoukat Hussain Rizvi.

First – Recorded Song: FIRST song Shala jawania manen, Akha na morin, pee le, Ji le, do char deharey ji le ji le”   recorded by Master Ghulam Haider for Gul Bukavli in His Master’s Voice Studios.

Playback singing Career: Started with song Zindgi hai ya kissi ka intezar hai, jane kiss ko dhondti hai bar bar composed by Rasheed Attrey, film Salma In 1960.

First – Punjabi song: First Punjabi song in Malangi (1965) as playback singer.

First – Silver Jubilee Punjabi Film

Pheray

Pheray was not only the first Punjabi films but it was also the first Silver Jubilee film of Pakistan. This film was re-make of Director Nazir´s Indian Urdu/Hindi film Gaon Ki Gori (Noor Jahan and Nazir played a lead role in the film) which was released in 1946.

Pheray also proved to be a big musical hit, the Music Director Baba G. A. Chishti wrote, composed all six songs of this film in a one day which a proved that how big musician he was. Pheray was released in Palace cinema Lahore where it completed its twenty five weeks. Inayat Hussain Bhatti debut his film career in this movie.

Lahore based film Teri Yaad was released on August 7, 1948 (Eid ul Fitr), Although it was not the first film which started its film shooting after the existence of Pakistan but it was completed in a record timings and became Pakistan’s inaugural film. In Lahore it was released in Parbhat (now Empire) Cinema on the eve of Eid-ul-Fittar. Asha Posley played the lead role of the heroine, she was introduced in this film as she was daughter of Nath who was also the music composer of Teri Yaad. Nasir Khan the hero of the film was brother of the renowned film actor of sub continent Yousaf Khan known as Dalip Kumar. Here it is worth mentioning that renowned Director Luqman used to  determined once claiming  that his film Shahida was Pakistan’s inaugural film as he was the first film director who started shooting of Shahida in Pakistan but Shahida was released on March 18, 1949, much after the release of Teri Yaad that’s made it first released film of Pakistan.

First – Punjabi Film

Pheray was not only the first Punjabi film of Pakistan but it was also the first Silver Jubilee film of Pakistan. Pheray released on August 3rd 1949, was re-make of Director Nazir´s Indian Urdu/Hindi film Gaon Ki Gori (Noor Jahan and Nazir played a lead role in the film) which was released in 1946. Pheray also proved to be a big musical hit, the Music Director Baba G. A. Chishti wrote, composed all six songs of this film in a one day which was a record. Pheray celebrated its Silver Jubilee in Solo cinema Lahore.

First – Sindhi Film

Umer Marvi
Umer-MarviSindhi film producer Peer Fazlani who had already produced Shehnaz in Bombay and Barkha in Lahore, planned a unique experience to produce film in regional language so in 1956 Fazlani made Umer Marvi, a Pakistan’s first Sindhi film in which he also acted as hero of the film  and it was released on March 12th 1956. Nighat Sultana, Fazlani, Charlie, Sayani Atish, Biboo, Sarfaraz and Garib Shah played the main role in this first ever Sindhi film.

First – DV (Double Version) Film

Madam Bawri

Although, Sindi film Ghairat Jo Sawal which was released on October 18th 1974, did reasonable business at the box office as with other cast some of Sindi actors like Mehboob Alam, Qurban Jilani and music of film was composed by Feroz Gul.  First time this film was dubbed into Punjabi language and released on November 19 1976, renaming the film as Shehzor but the experiment was proved a complete failure as Shehzor was unable to attract the attention of Punjabi film spectators as compare to its Sindhi version Ghairat Jo Sawal. So this double version idea was considered as flop notion and no new assignment was even reconsidered until in 1989 when film Madam Bawri was released on May 7, 1989 as double version in Urdu and Punjabi languages and since this film did well purely from business point of view so it started double version trend in Pak cine world.

First – Cinemascope Punjabi Film

Lakha

Lakha was first Punjabi Cinemascope film which was directed and produced by Shafiq Ahmed and released on September 22nd,  1978 with cast of Iqbal Hassan, Nisho and Sultan Rahi but due to its weak plot the film did not do well at box office. As regard to East Pakistan’s (Now Bangladesh) the first cinemascope film was Bahana and color Cinemascope film was Mala which were released on April 16 1965 and December 3 1965, respectively.

First – Color Film of Lahore

Ik Dil Do Deewaney

Ik Dil Do Deewaney was first color film which was released from Lahore on November 20th 1964, which was directed by Wazir Ali and produced by Q. Zaman. As per some film history record Naila is mentioned as First color film released in Pakistan but factually it was released after Ik Dil Do Deewaney.

First – Color Film of Dhaka

Sangam

Zaheer Rehan directed Sangam the first color film which was released from Dhaka on April 23rd 1964 on the eve of Eid ul Azha it did good business.

First – Golden Jubilee Film

Noukar

Noukar1955Noukar, though the movie did a Super hit business both in Pakistan and India but it set a wrong precedence of copying the theme from Indian movies. Noukar was directed by Karishan Kumar but as being the Indian national so Attaullah Shah Hashmi was reflected as director of the film. Due to its powerful story, cast credit and music it became the first golden jubilee film of Pakistan.

First – Film Released in other Country

Baghi

Baghi was the first film of Pakistan that was released in China and cast of the film like Sudhir, Musarat Nazir and director Ashfaq Malik was officially invited by  China.

First – Oscar Award Film

Saving Face

Saving-FaceSaving Face, a Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ’s documentary film was nominated  in the “Documentary, short film” category and during the prestigious ceremony held on 26 February 2012 she won the Oscar for her nomination.

First – Western style Film

Baghi

The first western style film of Pakistan was Baghi which proved another success of the year 1956 due to its action drama based story. The story was derived from Fazili brother’s old film Qaidi. In Ashfaq Malik’s film Musarrat Nazeer, Sudhir, Alauddin, Talish, Yasmin, Nazer, Zeenat, Ajmal, Ghulam Muhammad and Baby Shabana were in the main cast of film Baghi.

First – Diamond Jubilee Film

Zarqa

zarqaaThe story of Zarqa was based on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict of 1949. Zarqa is a village girl who is recruited to the Palestinian cause after her father is killed by the Israeli army. Captured by the enemy she is ordered to dance before them but she refuses.  For refusing, Zarqa is savagely whipped until she was near half dead.  This scene was based on a real event in Neelo’s personal life when she tried to commit suicide in February 1965 after she allegedly was “kidnapped” and ordered by some official to dance at a party in honour of the King of Iran, Mohammad Reza Shah Pehlavi who was on a state visit to Pakistan. She refused and was assaulted and threatened afterward. Her husband Riaz Shahid who married her soon after this incident incorporated the event in a scene in Zarqa. On the film’s release in October 1969, he offered the distribution rights to the Palestinian guerilla organisation Al Fatah, whose activities are also depicted in the film.

First – Platinum Jubilee Film

Arman

Armaan1Arman was a Super Hit film of 1966 which obtained 6 Nigar Awards after having benefited from the been jubilant statute of platinum. Waheed Murad was in lead role as hero, his original chocolate appeared image was touched the heights in this film.

 

First – Pakistani Cinema

Pakistan Talkies

PakFirstCinemaPakistan Talkies is the oldest cinema of Pakistan which is located at Texali Gate Lahore. It was built in 1908 as local drama theater by Mr. Shiekh Aziz –u- Din who belongs to a Qanoongo Shiekh family of Lahore. On completion it was named on its owner’s name Shiekh Aziz -u- Din as Aziz Theater. Initially Aziz Theater used to host stage dramas based on local traditional / regional folk tales. When the silent cinema was introduced in sub-continent in 1913 so it also attracted the owner of the Aziz Theater which changed its theater portfolio and renamed it as Jubilee cinema.  This process took two years finally silent films were started releasing in 1915. With the invention of talkies in 1931 that revolutionized the whole cinema industry so Jubilee cinema was once again renovated and upgraded with sound projection system and Jubilee was replaced with Taj Mahal Talkies in 1932. Mr. Yasin Al-hamid and Aziz Al-hamid the owner of Taj Mahal played a vital role in Pakistan movement and remained employed in government machinery afterward. Basing on their patriotism they renamed Taj Mahal as Pakistan Talkies with the independence of Pakistan in 1947.
The cinema has a glorious history as it used to released box office hit and A class movies. But with the passage of time its standard was deteriorated primarily due to the surrounding developments all around its location. As at present the cinema is located in Heera Mandi (Shahi Mohalla The Red light area) but once cinema was constructed, Heera Mandi was there in Dhobi mandi near old Anar Kali.
In spite of all hurdles still the cinema is operationally functional as Pakistan Talkies which makes it the oldest and First cinema of Pakistan, completing hundred years plus of its continuous entertainment to cinema gores.

First – Balochi Film

Hummalo Mahganj
In 1976, Hummalo Mahganj was the only film which was produced in Balochi language; the film was though completed and was cleared by censor board but could be released due to some technical reasons. Anwar Iqbal (Ptv Karachi actor) and A. R. Baloch played the lead role in the film. The press show of the film was projected on Bambino cinema screen. Now after laps of thirty eight years Anwar Iqbal finally managed to release the film on Balochi TV channel Wish. The film is based on a true story of Qalat state which was pen downed by Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi and directed by Aslam Baloch, music composed by Fateh Muhammad. One of film song “Nai sah wah wich rawa”, which was sung by Ishrat Jahan and Wali Muhammad and it was written by Atta Shad who died on February 13, 1997. Anita Gul, Anwar Iqbal, Noor Muhammad Lashari, Shakil Lasi, Mehmood Lasi, Muhammad Hussain Madari, Dear Asghar Nadir Shah Adil and A. R. Baloch were in main cast of the film.

First – Bengali Film

Mukho Mukhish

Mukho Mukhish was the First – Bengali film which was produced at Dhaka, Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) and released on December 12, 1958.

First – Gujrati Film

Maa te Maa

Producer Qadeer Khan made this film under the direction of Iqbal Akhtar and Maa te Maa was released on December 1,1970. Shaista Qaiser, Agha Sajjad and Sahira Bano played the lead role in this first Gujrati film.

First – Siraiki Film

Dhiyan Nimanian

Dhian-NimanianPakistan’s first Siraiki film was Released on December 7th, 1973. Under the direction of renowned actor Inayat Hussain Bhatti, Khanum, Inayat Hussain Bhatti, Saiqa and Asad Bukhari acted in the film.

First – Hindko Film

Qissa Khawani

First Hinko film of Pakistan was released on October 20th, 1980. Sultan Rahi, Yasmeen Khan, Waheeda Khan and Rangeela were in the main cast who acted under the direction of Qateel Shifai.

First – English Film

Beyond The Last Mountain

Beyond The Last MountainBeyond The Last Mountain was the First ever Pakistani film which was produced in English, it was also released as Musafar in Urdu, released on December 17th 1976.

First – Color Film (Partly)

Gul Badan

gulbadinGul Badan (1960) was the first Pakistani black and white film in which one song was filmed in geva color format, cinematography was carried out by Muhammad Fazil and its processing was done by renowned lab master Piyaray Khan. Subequently , songs of film Gul Bakauli (1961) and Azra (1962) were filmed in color. Then it started a new trend to have songs in color format.

First – Magical / Mystical Film

Gul Badan

First magical mystical and fairy tale Pakistani film Gul Badan which was produced by Shabab Keranvi, and due to the demand of the for camera special effects and double exposed tricks it was directed by best cameraman A. Hameed known as Bhaiya Hameed. Though the film had lot of loopholes but being first magical world film did average business.

First – Art Film

Jago Hoa Sawera

In 1959, a group of film enthusiasts inspired by the example of Satyajit Ray in India banded together to make Jago Hoa Sawera, what they hoped would be Pakistan’s first experiment Art Film with realist cinema. With cinematographer Walter Lassally, a key figure in Britain’s Free Cinema movement, handling the camera, director and screenwriter A.J. Kardar’s Jago Hoa Sawera was awarded a gold medal at the Moscow Film Festival and received several glowing reviews by international critics. Yet it was soon almost completely forgotten, as Pakistani cinema headed into another, very different direction.

First – Lion Fight Film

Darbar

Darbar was Pakistan’s first film in which hero of film (Santosh Kumar) was shown while fighting with a lion. Subsequently, Sudhir also filmed same sequence with lion in his film Sahil.

First – Suspense/Detective Film

Raaz

Raaz was Pakistan’s first suspense detective film and also Humayun Mirza’s first Lahore base film in which Awami actor Allaudin gave one of his best performances.

First – Film Shot Abroad

Karwaan

Karwaan was Pakistan’s first film which was filmed out of Pakistan as it was shot in Nepal under the direction of S. M. Pervaiz. Shabnam, Haroon, Mustafa, Ashesh Kumar, Tarana and Badruddin were included in the main cast.

First – Silver Jubilee Urdu Film

Do Ansoo

Do Ansoo was the first ever Urdu Silver Jubilee film of Pakistan, the theme and plot of Do Ansoo is so attractive that we saw four movies on the same story, initially in Bhai Jaan (1945), Dillan De Soudey (1969) and Anjuman that was released in 1970. Almost all movies gave a box office Super hit business.

Here are some facts about Films:-

Pheray

Pheray was released on August 3rd 1949, was not only the first Punjabi film of Pakistan but it was also the first Silver Jubilee film of Pakistan. Intezar

Special film show of film Intezar (1956) was arranged in Iran which was witnessed by Sikandar Mirza the President of Pakistan and Shah Iran and film was awarded the President Award. The worth mentioning film of the year 1956 was Intizar which was produced by wonderful combination of film unit, director Masood Pervez, musician Khawaja Khurshid Anwar and produced by Mian Sultan Jilani owner of Paramount cinema Lahore, so film did superb business both in India and Pakistan.

Jatti

Film Distributor Malik Mubarik made Jatti as producer it was a Punjabi films so unexpectedly Jatts of Punjab stood up against the name so name of movie Jatti was replaced with Chitti. But on release of the film once again there was agitation from sweepers side as one of the song was filmed on a sweepress so the result was extrication of song from the movie.

 Aik Thi Larki

Film Aik Thi Larki was directed by three renowned directors Sharif Nayar, Ehtesham and  Hassan Tariq but in spite of having good cast like Rani, Shahid, Yousaf Khan and Aslam Pervez, the film proved a Flop film of 1973.

 Tiger Gang

In 1974 Iqbal Shazad produced and directed Tiger Gang, in collaboration with a German producer and German actors in lead role but film was unable to create any desired impact.

 Yakke Wali

Trend setter film Yakke Wali by Bari Malik was released on February 22nd 1957 and it proved to be a Super hit film of the year 1957 and did a box office business as it was not only the Golden Jubilee film but it was Pakistan’s first film that completed fifty week s plus constantly at one cinema that was Capital Cinema Lahore.  More so, it is said that Bari Malik the producer of the  film, got built the Bari Studios of Lahore from the income of Yakke Wali.

Film Insaan have a unique honor that music of this film was composed by 9 (Nine) musician.

Ishq -e- Laila

Ishq -e- Laila was the film which have maximum number ie Fifteen songs in one film, it was released on April 16th 1957. In 1957 a new trend of making movies on same or one story was started and first of all two movies which were made on a famous traditional love story of Laila Majno, named Ishq -e- Laila and Laila Majno. Munshi Dil was the director of Ishq -e- Laila under the banner of Eveready Pictures, who had already written the same very story previously. Anwar Kamal Pash made the other movie Laila Majno, both the films were released on the same day but only Ishq -e- Laila proved the Super hit of the year due to its melodious music which is mesmerizing till to date.

Film which was not released on Cinemas

Samjhota

Making of this film was started in 1977 just after the release of Bharosa, but it took much more time in its preparation as it was scheduled. Finally once the film was completed, no film distributor was ready to release the film as it became unsuitable to be released on that point of time Resultantly the film was never released on cinemas. However, the rights of the film were purchased by Pakistan Television and Ptv broadcasted the film on July 27th 1995.Two songs of the film were composed some other films of Shabab keranvi as under:

The song of the film “Shabab larkhra geya, nasha sa dil pe chha geya, tum kaho ge kis liye, is liye ke tum merey qareeb ho” which was sung by Naheed Akhtar was composed by A. Hameed for film Bharosa as it was included in its audio album.

Next song “Pathar jeisa ik albaila, hoi gawa re dekho hom, maja abb jeeney ka awey ga sung by Masood Rana / Tassawar Khanam was basically composed for Aina Aur Soorat but it was not picturised in the film but the same song was included in this film.

Here are some facts about Films:-

Sudhir

Lala Sudhir, so far proved the most profitable actor for the producers purely from film business point of view. Establishment of two major film studios were on the credential of Sudhir. The story will start with the release of Dulla Bhatti on 6th January 1956. It was released by Evernew Pictures and directed by famous film journalist S.M. Dar, melodious music of the film became one of the major factor in its success. From business point of view it achieved the heights, it is to be said that Agha G.A.Gul had purchased fifty acres of land and inaugurated Evernew Studios out of the income of Dulla Bhatti. At the same time studio of Muslim Town was renamed as Old Evernew Studios. During the agitation of Jaal Movement (a movement started against the import of Indian films) Bari Malik promised to spend the whole income of movie on the welfare and uplift of film industry if he was allowed to release said film. So he produced Mahi Munda, directed by M.J.Rana which proved a Super hit film of 1956 so out of the income of Mahi Munda, Bari Malik procured seventy actress of land in between Evernew Studios and Shahnoor Studios and laid the stone of Bari Studio. Yakke Wali by Bari Malik was released on February 22 1957 and it proved to be a Super hit film of the year 1957 and did a box office business as it was not only the Golden Jubilee film but it was Pakistan’s first film that completed fifty week s plus constantly at one cinema that was Capital Cinema Lahore.  More so, it is also said that Bari Malik the producer of the film, got built the Bari Studios of Lahore from the income of Yakke Wali.

Rehaman

During a film shooting actor and director Rehman met a sever road accident which resulted in loss of one of his leg but the enthusiastic film director not only kept on directing his films but also appeared in films as hero. Rehman owned a very lovely personality and enjoyed a respectable protocol within film industry and they showed its practical demonstration in his next produced and directed film Milan in which most of the artists played with token honorarium of rupee one which included Deeba and Noor Jahan who used to charged her stipend in advance.

 

Sultan Rahi

The world is full of people who became “Person” from a very low and humble background and ruled the world of their respective field. If we unfold the pages of film history of Pakistan we do have a long list of such personalities but amongst all, Sultan Rahi has a very unique and significant place. He started his film career by pushing the camera trolley, a boom operator, or any petty job of film studios and reached at the peak and heights of performing art as film hero which is a dream of many leading actors. Sultan Rahi was Sultan (King) of the film world, his name was a guarantee for success of any film, a MUST name in any film particularly Punjabi film of seventies, eighties and mid-nineties but he always presented himself so humbly as he used to be during his struggling days. Sultan Rahi acted in almost seven hundred plus films that his name was considered to be included in Gunnies Book of World Records for acting as lead role (Hero) in maximum number of feature films. Sultan Rahi as religious, Awami (Public hero), generous, hardworking and ground to earth showbiz actor will never be forgotten and just to revive this aspect it’s a mpap’s tribute to such a dynamic and versatile actor of Pakistan film industry.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy a Pakistani journalist and documentarian have won an Oscar for her documentary Saving Face. She is the first Pakistani to win the prestigious award in the 84 years history of Academy Awards. Prior to this honor Sharmeen was already awarded with an Emmy for her documentary, Pakistan: Children of the Taliban in 2010. She is also the first non-American to win the Livingston Award for Young Journalists. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday announced a high civil award for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on this achievement of winning Oscar Award for her documentary film. Oscar nomination in the “Documentary, short film” category, announced by the Academy awards for the year 2012, Saving Face a Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ’s documentary was nominated and during the prestigious ceremony held on 26 February 2012 she won the Oscar for her nomination. This award enabled Sharmeen, the first Pakistani filmmaker to earn an Oscar. Sharmeen is director of Documentary films and she was awarded Emmy award in 2010 for her documentary Pakistan: Children of the Taliban. Saving face, which the Karachi-based filmmaker has co-directed with Daniel Junge, depicts the life of a British Pakistani plastic surgeon who donates his time to heal acid victims in Pakistan.
