As we explore the film history of sub-continent its reveals that in the start no female artist was ready to act in films so male artists used to wear lady getup and played roles of female characterization. The first indigenous full-length feature film Raja Harishchandra (1913) was a silent film (about 40 minutes) produced and directed by the legendary film maker Dadasaheb Phalke. Surprisingly there was not a single female artist in the film so all female roles were played by male actors in the get of female characters. So hats off to female artists of those days who took initiative to appear in the films and portrayed grace of feminism. All female artists appeared in Pakistan cinema in any performing role have been included in these pages leaving aside their popularity graph or appearance frequency. Here it is worth mentioning that emphasis should be not be laid on who and what they were or are, rather we must see what all they have offered to amuse our previous generations and us so they deserve a profound respect, dignity and honor accordingly. Priority is given to highlight their performance and acting over their personal life with its plus and minus. |
