Discover Margaret River from your luxury accommodation

Accommodation in Margaret River has become a real magnet for gourmands in recent years. They come for the wine and stay for treats such as those found at The Margaret River Chocolate Company at Metricup.

The district has its own award-winning boutique beer maker, the Colonial Brewing Company, 10 minutes’ drive from town. As you travel the region, you are sure to stumble across great local cheesemakers, breadmakers, olive oil pressers as well as cafes and restaurants. Many of Western Australia’s most expressive and creative artists have gravitated to this area, leading to a thriving local arts scene. There are glass blowers, painters, sculptors and jewellery makers to mention a few. We love the Purist Gallery, where you can enjoy the work of artist Penny Hudson and jeweller Max Ball over a cafe latte on their studio garden terrace. The local information bureau has a brochure that details an artist's trail to explore, so that you can plan to see the best that the creative locals have to offer from your Margaret River accommodation base.

Some of the region’s most startling features are natural. Eagle Bay has a peaceful beach to discover on the way to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, which guards the meeting of the Southern and Indian Oceans at the most westerly tip of Australia (in season, watch out for whales).

The Margaret River region was known to surfers long before it made its name with wine. There are some 75 surf breaks up and down the coast at beaches whose names, such as Prevally, have become legendary among Australian surfies. Surfers Point should be on any board rider’s list of iconic breaks to notch up on the board.

Have we mentioned wine yet? The Margaret River Wine Region has justifiably become one of Australia’s leading viticulture districts, up there with Coonawarra, the Hunter Valley and the Yarra Valley. The climate and soils combine to produce some truly impressive wines such as those from Leeuwin Estate, Cape Mentelle or Vasse Felix.

Any time is a good time to visit Margaret River. Summer, winter or in between there is so much to see and do, whatever your age or interests. We suggest booking yourself into some local luxury accommodation for at least a week in order to begin sampling all that is on offer. But don’t worry if you don’t get to see it all this trip… Margaret River will call you back soon enough.
