New: CBP says someone hacked one of its subcontractors and stole traveler and license-plate photos. The company had transferred the files to its network "in violation of CBP policies." CBP is still working with the company despite it failing to follow security and privacy rules.pic.twitter.com/FTbnwJGz6J

And the thing is red light cameras theoretically only record people suspected of a crime. Other tech—particularly automated license plate readers—collects information on everyone. Cops expect the vast majority won't be relevant to an investigation, and keep the data anyway.

TX Gov. Strickland: “There's a lot of reasons we want to get rid of red light cameras. Number one, privacy concerns. We think that the right to due process matters. You have the right to face your accuser in court." Replace cameras with face rec, algorithms, etc. It still holds.
