What is a Goodwill Guide? print

What is a Goodwill Guide?
Goodwill Guides are volunteer guides who help visitors to Korea to communicate in various situations. They attend festivals and events together with visitors, provide free guide services, assist with communication in various ways, and participate in cultural exchanges. As of December 31, 2009, 682 Goodwill Guides are registered with the Korea Tourism Organization. If you would like to make your visit to Korea even more worthwhile and memorable, arrange for a Goodwill Guide to accompany you on your individual trip. When you request their help, our volunteer guides will respond warmheartedly, with excellent command of foreign languages.
What about the cost?
Goodwill Guides are volunteers and offer their services free of charge. However, travel expenses (ex. admission tickets, food, transportation, accommodation if traveling to other cities, etc.) are expected to be covered by the applicant.
What kind of services does a Goodwill Guide provide?
Goodwill Guides provide information on tour sites, transportation, and accommodation in the city they live in or nearby cities. They also offer any advice you may need when traveling in Korea.

Goodwill Guides' foreign language skills may vary depending on their individual background. Do not expect the level of a professional interpreter. Goodwill Guides offer interpretation services in everyday language, and will do their best with their skills to help translate.

How to Apply ?
Are you visiting Korea? First plan which cities you will be visiting, then sign up for a Goodwill Guide through the "Goodwill Guide Application." You can check your application status through the "Application Status" section of our website and also access any response a Goodwill Guide Coordinator may have left. As soon as a Goodwill Guide volunteers, you will be notified via email. Applications should be entered somewhere between 10 and 30 days prior to your visit. Most Goodwill Guides have full-time jobs, and some are students, work-at-home moms, or retirees. There may be some unforeseen changes to applications made too early.
