Kansas City: '67-'86

I grew up in Prairie Village, KS, a suburb of Kansas City. I have two brothers (See: '96 photo) and two sisters.

1976: The Royals win the championship of the American League's Western Division, the first of three straight. For those same three years, they would lose the playoffs to the New York Yankees.
History of the Kansas City Star

I remember walking home from school one day: the game was on so many TVs and radios that I could hear it the whole way.

1985: The Royals bring a baseball championship to Kansas City for the first time, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. The city goes wild.

My sister Jeanne was the only person in St. Louis wearing Royal Blue.

Hmmm... maybe I'll try again: If Eric Ryan is out there, drop me a note!

After 18 years, I finally left home; First I visited Guatemala as an exchange student summer of '86. Hi Cesar!

I highlighted this passage on being far from home...

Ford was very kind--he gave the barman another five-pound note and told him to keep the change. The barman looked at it and then looked at Ford. He suddenly shivered: he experienced a momentary sensation that he didn't understand because no one on Earth has ever experienced it before. In moments of great stress, every life form that exists gives out a tiny subliminal signal. This signal simply communicates an exact and almost pathetic sense of how far that being is from the place of his birth. On Earth it is never possible to be farther than sixteen thousand miles from your birthplace, which really isn't very far, so such signals are too minute to be noticed. Ford Prefect was at this moment under great stress, and he was born six hundred light-years away in the near vicinity of Betelgeuse.
