King of Istanbul

03.05.2015 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger celebrated the 85th title of his career after a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Pablo Cuevas in Istanbul today.

Our champ got off to an excellent start, converting the first breakball he had and holding the lead all the way through the opening set. Cuevas upped his game in the second set, taking the set into an incredibly tense tie-breaker which Roger eventually captured 13-11.

Now it is time for more action on clay in Madrid!

Morning All, still in such a good mood following Roger's win! I do hope he does well in Madrid! I guess if he goes deep then it would make sense to skip Rome and rest before RG but if he doesn't do well then may be best to play Rome and get more match practice. Roger has won Madrid every 3 years; '06,'09,'12.... '15 to add to that would be perfect to continue that nice pattern :)

I'm not a hater, but I can do simple math...it's not too hard to see how Rafa could leave Madrid as the sixth seed going into Rome, and then even if he makes the finals, do no better going into Paris. An interesting seeding 'problem' for the RG staff...

Dearest Roger,

Congratulations to you for your 85th title. I am so happy. You are always a great clay court player and capable of beating anybody on clay. Hope to see you win your 2nd French Open title this year. Yes, you are king of Istanbul, you are king of tennis, you are king Roger. Wish you all the very best.
