The board of trustees of the Recording Academy announced last week that American Indians would be represented in the Grammys.
After a three-year lobbying effort by Ellen Bello, founder of the Native American Music Awards and the Native American Music Association, a Best Native American Music Album award will be presented next year.
Ms. Bello, of Dix Hills, said, ''This is so long overdue, but I'm thankful all that hard work paid off.'' ROBBIE WOLIVER
