Description

Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).

Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.

Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.

Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.

Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)

Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.

Extra features:
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.

Abysmal app, Worse experience

Having Messages in a separate app caused me to delete the Facebook app altogether, which has given me tons of free time back - so that’s a plus I guess? Beyond that, Facebook really, REALLY doesn’t like not having access to every bit of info on your phone. I’ve disabled all notifications except for badging the app icon, and more than anything in the world it wants to display notifications on my lock screen, and banners over any app I’m using. So much so that every time I launch the app, I am given instructions on how to enable notifications for it! Or if you accidentally tap the microphone button, you HAVE to allow the app access (tapping “Deny” gets you stuck in an endless loop) and then go in to your privacy settings to disable it. Same thing with photos. Or Camera.

I keep it installed for the sole purpose of having easy communication with friends scattered far and wide, but it’s truly an awful app. Facebook is lucky I like my friends so much that I give them ANY foothold at all onto my device.

Works Again!

After the update that came before the most recent one, Messenger began acting incredibly buggy, laggy and slow. But Messenger has been updated once again and thankfully, all the slowness problems are gone 🙏🏼.
I think Facebook Messenger is a perfect messaging application. You can send whatever you want to your friends, even money, and I sometimes use it more than iMessage. While a lot of people complain about the Facebook app and Messenger app being separate, I like the idea of a dedicated app solely for privately messaging your friends.
Amazing app. Five stars.

Meh

Much easier and actually gives notifications unlike using safari, but lately (maybe it's only mine???) I've had to hard reboot my iPhone twice due to this app. Sometimes after I send a message and go to the homescreen, I can tap on anything I'd like and nothing happens, and if the screen goes off, the phone shuts off entirely and I have to cold reboot. I'm sure it's the app because I deleted the app for a week to make sure I was justified in making this review, and I redownloaded it today, and the same thing happened again. It's causing my phone a lot of problems, but in terms of the app when it works, it's very easy and fun to use.
