Connor Wickham: Sheffield Wednesday secure loan deal

Sheffield Wednesday have won the chase to sign young Sunderland striker Connor Wickham on loan.

The 19-year-old has joined the Owls on a month's youth loan and can play in Saturday's home fixture against Derby.

Black Cats manager Martin O'Neill made the England Under-21 forward available to ensure he maintains match fitness.

Wickham was struggling for game time at the Stadium of Light following the arrival of £5m signing Danny Graham from Swansea City.

He has scored once in nine games for Sunderland this season.

The emergency loan window for Football League clubs opened on Thursday, but Sunderland have a recall clause after 28 days.

The former Ipswich Town youngster scored his fourth goal in five games for England's U21 side against Sweden on Tuesday.
