American Football announce deluxe reissue of 1999 self-titled album

on March 21, 2014, 11:15am

“They sound like American Football,” my pedestrian friend used to say of Tallahassee’s own Look Mexico. At the time, I never did check them out, leaving my Limewire to download, instead, rare bootlegs from Modest Mouse or discographies of veteran artists like Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, or… Jan Hammer. Yeah, 2005 was a weird time.

Now, American Football plans to hit the field again for a 15-year-old case of nostalgia. On May 20th, Polyvinyl will reissue the indie rock outfit’s lone 1999 self-titled album, re-introducing us to the trio of Mike Kinsella, Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes. If Kinsella’s name rings a bell, you’ve probably been listening to Cap’n Jazz, Owen, and Owls.

The forthcoming deluxe edition is spread out over two discs, which will include live recordings, demos, and other previously-unreleased material. They’re even throwing in new liner notes and band photos. Check out one recording below and, hey, play ball.

Kudos to my beer-swiggin’ friend of yesteryear. They do sound like Look Mexico.
