July 2015Larmer Tree Festival
The Larmer Tree is said to have been an ancient landmark tree found on the boundary between Wiltshire and Dorset and is believed to have been an ancient Wych elm under which King John (1167–1216) and his entourage met whilst out hunting. As by tradition, a new Lamer tree is planted each year and the intimate family-friendly festival takes place in July each year.
Famous for its eclectic line-ups and enchanting atmosphere, the Lamar Tree Festival is held in the exquisite Victorian grounds of the Dorset/Wiltshire countryside. Having won both the ‘Best Family Festival’ and ‘Best Toilets’ awards as voted by festival-goers, this festival has something to offer for everyone looking for a fulfilling (and sanitary!) summer experience. With seven venues including the Main stage, garden stage and big top, guests can enjoy a wide range of entertaining shows including workshops, music, art, food and culture. As a completely unsponsored festival, one may assume that the entertainment could lack the x-factor, however this year’s line-up includes extraordinary acts including Tom Odell, Tom Jones, Hudson Taylor and Frank Turner, as well as comedians such as Chris Ramsay, Paul Foot, Mark Watson and many more.
Larmer also offers more than 70 free workshops, shows and activities for the under-10s. With eleven acres of magical garden to explore and a huge adventure playground, you can be sure your kids will be kept busy and entertained. Indeed even if you need a break from the music, you can always make your way to The Village, which features a Global Bazaar, and stalls selling CDs and T-shirts. Or you could simply lie back and relax in Lostwood, an enchanted tree-shaded glade, where you will be treated to a full programme of entertainment, talks, story-telling and poetry.
