Former New York Giants running back NEEDREPLACE_47777" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag nofollow" title="Posts tagged with Ahmad Bradshaw">Ahmad Bradshaw remains an unrestricted free agent and his chances at being signed prior to the season just took another significant blow.

NFL Network is reporting (via a league spokesman) that Bradshaw is facing a one-game suspension for violating the league's Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse due to a marijuana possession charge back in February. Bradshaw has since pled no contest to that charge.

As part of the no contest plea, Bradshaw will have his Ohio driving privileges suspended for six months, while a second minor misdemeanor traffic charge was dropped.

"Pretty much what's in the public record is what's there," Bradshaw's attorney David Williamson said.

Bradshaw is still recovering from fractured fibula suffered in November of last year, which was the primary reason he remained on the free agent market. And while this latest drug run-in with potential suspension doesn't necessarily look good for him, he was unlikely to be signed until Week 2 of the regular season (when teams can sign veterans to non-guaranteed contracts) anyway.

Originally a seventh-round draft pick by the Giants in 2007, Bradshaw spent the first six years of his NFL career with Big Blue, winning two Super Bowls and eclipsing 1,000 yards twice (2010, 2012). However, neck injuries forced the Giants to go in another direction, leading to Bradshaw joining the Indianapolis Colts in 2013. However, injuries have continued to plague him late in his career and he has finished each of the last two seasons on Injured Reserve (IR).

In his career, Bradshaw has rushed for 4,843 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Probably using it to cover pain guy just doesn’t know when to quit

I would say give him a shot and bring him back but I don’t really see any room for him. I mean Jennings and Williams will be the guys on first and second down. Vereen on third. Unless one of these guys gets really hurt, Bradshaw wouldn’t make the team.

He would definitely come on the cheap though.

I don’t smoke pot but this is absolutely the dumbest rule on the planet. Hey Goodell, how’s that 50 year-old scotch you sip at night? How’d you like for somebody to arbitrarily make it illegal and suspend you from your job without pay after randomly testing you for it?

As someone who smokes pot, its utterly ridiculous. I mean it does not help you in anyway.

I was a D1 soccer player and I smoked pot before a game once in high school. It was the worst game I ever played in my life. So the fact that they think it may relax a player or make them more focused, is just dumb.

    one game suspension?

did they only find a roach clip?
