Andrey Atuchin (born September 10, 1980 in Prokopievsk) is a freelance natural illustrator and paleoartist living in Kemerovo, Russia. He mostly use digital media technics and specialised in dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. He is a certified biologist and use the scientific background to create his illustrations.

Career[edit]

In 2002 Andrey was noticed as a paleoartist at the first time as he was awarded by honorable mention on International Dinosaur Illustration Contest [1]. The illustrator’s career has begun after collaboration in projects with Dougal Dixon. Results of this work was “The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs”[2] and “The illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Creatures” [3]

Since then, Andrey collaborated with various magazines (National Geographic, Prehistoric Times, Paleomir, Discover etc.), and with Museums and Publishers all over the World (Natural History Museum of Utah in USA[4], Queensland Museum in Australia, Moscow Paleontological Museum, Amur Earth History Museum and so forth). In addition he took a part in Dinosaur excavation in Russia several times. He was the first who illustrated some new described species, last known of them are Lythronax, Nasutoceratops, Kulindadromeus.[5] Andrey also completed a piece in 2014 for the publication of a paper on gregarious juvenile Protoceratops.[6]

Andrey is known by scientific illustrations for various publications and as an author of some of them. Moreover, he illustrated paleontological Russian textbook and regional verson of the Red_Data_Book_of_the_Russian_Federation
