Letter: Climate change debate continues

It appears that I struck a nerve or two with the author of “Climate change, round 3,” (Jan 30.)

I am actually quite pleased with the response. It illustrates a point that I would like to make about the climate debate. The debate should not be led emotionally but rather on the merits of the science as published and reviewed by their peers. These papers are readily available on the internet both for and against anthropogenic global warming.

WHAT'S YOUR VIEW? WRITE US A LETTER.

There is indeed much nonsense spouted by talking heads and radio hosts and others. I do not take what they say as anything more than possible directions of inquiry. I prefer to read published and peer reviewed scientific studies. I am also degreed and am qualified and certified to teach the subject in our Florida schools. I most definitely do not claim to be a scientist but I am an old fossil. Been there, done that, seen a lot of seasons and can read for myself.

There is not a lot of opposing views published in papers and on the television as it is not easy for dissenting scientists to be taken seriously by these groups. It usually turns into a personal attack on the credibility of the author when it is. That does not mean that they do not exist.

If one wants to read them, one has to look for them. A good place to start is in the Wednesday, February 12, 2014 edition of Popular Technology, www.populartechnology.net/2009/10/peer-reviewed-papers-supporting.html. Another good site is http://wattsupwiththat.com. It is admittedly a skeptic site but a fair site.

It lists many other sites to go to both for and against in which to read other views. They deal in scientific editorials and research. The site always documents and shares its sources with links to them.
