Background Reception Music

A live music act, such as a jazz band, string quartet or harpist, is often hired for the pre-meal drinks reception. A live accompaniment sets the tone for the day and creates a convivial atmosphere.

The set up should be organised carefully so that the music is being played as the first guests arrive at the reception.

The act should be briefed about when and where they are to play, and whether they should carry on during the meal.

Hiring an extra live act to perform before the meal over and above a band or disco for later on, can be costly. Remember that when the drink is flowing and the canapés circulating, many people will not miss background music if the budget does not stretch to this.
