How to Budget

By recording all estimated and real costs, an overall picture of wedding costs can be monitored.

It is unrealistic to allocate the entire wedding budget right at the beginning - most couples change their minds as to how much they are willing to spend on any given aspect.

Think about what is essential and the areas where costs can be cut.

Go for quality over quantity: for example, a delicious simple main course and pudding is better than a mediocre five-course meal.

Practicalities

Keep a record of that's been spent: as costs are finalised, note the total sum plus any deposit paid.

Balance the books: when a saving is made, the amount saved can be allocated to a different area, and vice versa.

Watch out for VAT: be aware that most suppliers' quotes exclude VAT, so allow for the extra percentage to be added on.
