Formal or Reportage?

Reportage - or 'fly-on-the-wall' - is a natural and more interesting option for wedding photography than traditional posed, formal shots.

Most couples, however, will require some group shots of family members and the wedding party, as well as some formal portraits.

Ideally, the photographer should be able to do both formal posed shots and informal reportage. The couple can then agree on a mixed style to ensure they get all the pictures they need.

Colour or Black and White?

It should be decided whether images will be black and white or colour images, or a selection of both. The light source in the venues may dictate this as black and white often suits less well-lit environments. It is, however, often the most flattering for wedding photos.

Most couples choose to have a mix of both colour and black and white.
