Table Settings

Crockery, linen and table centres combine to create an overall decorative effect. Details, such as menus and place cards, should be thought through carefully and fit the style of the wedding.

- Classic white linen and clear glass create a timeless, traditional effect.
- Unusual china or coloured glass can help add to a theme or style; coloured napkins or linen make a bold statement.
- Napkin rings, or equivalent, provide a chance to introduce some detail and co-ordinating colour to the table.
- Other decorations, such as tea light holders, are often available to hire from the florist.
- Make sure eight-hour burning candles are used, not the standard four-hour ones. It is advisable to place a drop of water in the bottom of the tea light holders to prevent them from overheating and shattering.
- The table numbers or names and place cards should also fit the theme of the table decorations.
- Place cards can be hand-made at home, rather than printed. Hand-calligraphy is an elegant choice.
- It is a nice touch to provide menus on the table for guests to see what is being served. This can also indicate when the cake will be cut and the speeches made.
- Some couples choose to sprinkle confetti on the wedding table; this can look messy and spoil an elegant, clean look.
